I watched 2 youtube videos but in each got to a point where I couldn't do the next step. For example, I first watched Colin Faris on color management and applied to all the clips in one timeline. I wanted to apply to another timeline, but when I followed the next video , selecting a clip, choosing timeline, I got stuck. I have 4 different timelines and when I choose a timeline to get the local color grade, it doesn't list that timeline, only 2 of the others which lack the color management. It doesn't matter which one I'm in, I don't get the choice with the color modified one.. So I can't proceed further.

The problem with the free tutorials out there is (at least for me) they generally lack depth and don't necessarily start from a good place.

The tutorials I recommend: Ripple Training, FXPHD, Mixing Light, Lowepost, TACResolveTraining, the ICA, and Demystify-color, which are all good. I like all three for different reasons: Ripple's is very thorough and technical; Warren is very down-to-earth and provides practical examples; and Patrick goes into the basics and touches on non-obvious extras. Each does a very good job and is certified as a trainer by BMD. Lowepost.com and TACResolveTraining.com have some good tutorials as well. I have not been as impressed by the other tutorials on the web, frequently done by people with dubious credentials. Cullen Kelly and Darren Mostyn are rare cases of people with free YouTube videos who are exceptionally good.

The BMD Resolve v17.4 and 18 manuals are also very informative, and it's free, but you need time to go through all 3900+ pages and try out every menu, every panel, every control, and every mode. Blackmagic also has several free textbooks on their training site:

Be aware that there are a lot of fly-by-night people out there presenting YouTube tutorials on Resolve. I would beware of anybody who has no credentials, no visible experience, and is not certified as a trainer by Blackmagic.

Second what Marc and Jim wrote.
But if you want to read it up in the manual, your keywords are "Power Grades".

In the manual I typed power grades and it showed zero. then I went from the introduction to the color page to where it said how to use it and got into pages and pages of codecs or things incomprehensile (to me) settings. After spending much time, I never saw the simple thing about the color wheels. Then I went to a Colin Faris absolute beginner for color and I finally saw what each wheel was supposed to do within a few minutes. I'm not trying to become hired by a TV station or anything. I just want to put up 6 months of backlogged videos on youtube that look fairly decent, so if anyone wants to use footage for some project they can contact me, and they usually want the raw file or clips. I don't think I should have to spend more months to become a master user of all aspects of the program just to do a few of the relatively most basic things, such as I could in Premiere Pro.

I'm watching a video by Alex Cameron, who says he is an official trainer. I followed along making an adjustment layer, possibly for copying colors, and then decided not to use it, as I preferred the middle mouse click copy method. He just deletes his, but when I did the same, it deleted all the clips under it. I undid and moved it to the end of the timeline to get rid of it.
