I have the same issue since yesterday. Averything was fine, then suddenly all my 20 fists seconds of any waveform is missing (from gopro footages, don't have this issue form my Sony alpha camera).
My previous projects have this issue now, even though is was displayed correctly before (with studio 18 too).
I've tried so many things, nothing works for me.

Davinci Studio 18.0.4 build 5 / windows 11

Same problem here with MP4-videos from Samsung S10 (4k).
Windows 11 Home 22H2 (build 22621.521)
Davinco 18.0.4 Build 5

I hope there will be a solution soon...

I'm still having the same issue and can firmly state this is not an isolated issue to a few of us posting on the forum.

Just take a look at the RESOLVECON 2022 videos to see the presenter's computer has the same issue.

I have the same problem in 18.0.3, upgraded to 18.0.4 but no change.

I believe this is causing Audio Sync by Waveform to fail - which I use all the time. Please can this be fixed ASAP.

Hi, I'm having the same problem, only happens with video audio, mp3's are fine
I'm sure it's something I've done, DR was fine untill I was working on a project and had to click to a another window to type a message (didn't click correctly) and did a load of keyboard short cuts in DR, just can't remember what I typed but since then I've had the problem

same problem happens with DR 18 which is the first 20 sec in any file i add to DR is not shown and there is lag when i play the video.
this problem happens only when i update windows 11 22h2, to fix this problem i install old version of windows 11 and everything work fine

Having this same issue as well, happened right after the latest Windows 11 major update, I was on davinci resolve 17 and it happened, and I updated to 18 and it still occurs. Glad I am not the only one though, was about to wipe and reinstall windows over this at this point.

Unfortunately I don't have this option as it's a new PC with the first installed version being 22H2.

Is this a problem with the latest version of Windows or an issue with Davinci running on the latest Windows?

This is probably something that BMD has to fix. Do not think Microsoft themselves would even know how or why this happens. For now, you can make anything you're working on a compound clip, and it properly shows the waveform. Does not sacrifice video/audio quality. Edit: And yeah, it's because of the version of windows, on an slightly older build like just before 22h2 davinci resolve will show the waveform properly.

I have the same issue since the latest major update to Windows 11 Pro 22H2

Previous projects show correctly but new projects display the first 20 seconds of missing audio. Strangely the audio is there and plays back and renders - it just does not show in the audio channel.

BMD needs to be looking into this. It is not a solution to revert Windows versions to get this to work when this Windows update has been out long enough that it is not a simple task to revert. For me the waveform does not show for the first few seconds of any clip added to the timeline but audio typically renders ok. Sometimes (like now with some GoPro video) there is no audio for a few seconds at the start of the clip where the waveform is missing. Each clip!

When You see the waveform at the beginning, that's empty, bud where the waveform starts is the sound / music at the start or is there really a piece missing ?
And if you place first the video track and then the audio track separate on the timeline is there the same problem ?
I've just updated bud didn't see this problem yet.

We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders in recent Beta Channel builds.

After updating to the latest studio version, I have no waveforms at all, MP3,MP4 and Linear PCM !
Converting them to WAV gives me a file that is not stable , timing the music with the video isn't stable and it seems to shift all the time !
In Fairlight everything is fine ! clicking on the music file in the edit timeline it appears in the left monitor full waveform !
I hope BM will fix this soon !

Thanks - useful tip, I can now see the Waveform.
Although I still have a problem with Auto Audio Sync by Waveform. I've assumed this is due to the Waveform not showing for the first 20 seconds (hence no Waveform match). I've tried a few different things, but looks like you can't use Auto Audio sync with compound clips. :(

It seems in my case there where some settings changed by the update, after setting them back everything is working and no problems so far !
I don't allow Windows to do any unwanted updates + that PC isn't always connected to the net, is that a reason ?

Same problem by me. Using Windows 11 22H2.
Workaround is: fully zoom into the track and the waveforms appears. This is a bug in Resolve 18.04.
Tried with shots from a GoPro9 and from my phone with Fílmic Pro: same problem.
Black guys, plz fix that.

What settings were changed, so that we can test and see if that fixes the bug on our end. This will further help investigating what the bug is and what it takes to fix it from BMD's side.

Not that it where big changes, bud for a "newbie" I had to look for it.
Basically the timeline view options where off !
I do think the updates from Win 10/11 are the basic trouble makers.
I had similar issues with Edius before and that's why I don't let Win update anymore = if it works => I don't fix it.

I suppose 99% of audio is VBR.

If you zoom into your timeline at the max, you will see the the waveform. Simply expand the timeline to the max.

Just wanted to add my name to the list of individuals with this problem on Windows 11 22H2.
What's ironic is that I had to do a bunch of troubleshooting to get 22H2 to install. I had Dynamic disks and needed to change back to Basic, because 22H2 doesn't support dynamic.
After all that, the update ruins the most important program on my PC.

What a bad surprise my dear!

You can see the beginning of the waveforms if you choose to zoom into the timeline at the most possible. Then the waveforms appears.

It certainly was, and thanks. Problem is there's an audio delay when I try and play it back.
Makes the detailed type of edits I do impossible.
Creating a Compound Clip does work, but wow is that a lot of extra work.

Well, i found the solution. This bugs because of driver of your sound card is out of date fro 22h2. Idk why is that but try just upgrade your driver and then recode waveforms. Its helped me. I got Motu m4 card and install new version of driver(from 1 november) solved this issue for me.

Can confirm that the 18.1 update fixed this issue in its entirety, have to do like others said and clear the audio cache by nuking it from the cacheclip folder. No longer have to keep making stuff a compound clip or having to revert windows version to bypass the bug. Windows 11 22H2 OS Build 22621.819

I wanted to follow up and let everyone know that one of the Davinci Resolve updates (or Windows, not sure which) fixed the issue I was having.

I sincerely hope that it has fixed it for all of you too.

If not, you may want to verify your Resolve and Windows are both up-to-date.
The audio files now load completely every time, and with now delay.

(Side note, I'm also very pleased with the speed and accuracy increase of the Face Scan, works amazing now!

Cheers!

Weird, worked for me and a couple of others. Ever since I have updated from 18.1 and have even updated windows to the latest update and this issue has yet to crop up again. I do believe BMD fixed it with 18.1 though, just some installation may have not agreed with it very nicely. Glad to see the issue is fixed for you though, makes editing less of a nightmare.
