Slow first initialization and slow opening of projects

PostSat Aug 06, 2022 8:59 pm

Hi!

New install (Free version) and on the splash screen it gets stuck on "loading projects" for a few minutes.
Then loading a project (opening Untitled Project) also takes a few minutes.
After it was loaded, I generated some log files.

I close it all down and start again, this time the splash screen is fast and I open the Untitled Project again and it takes a few more minutes before it actually loads.
After it was loaded, I generated more log files.

I have a very high end system. Windows 11 and drivers are up-to-date.
All hard drives are SSD (none are mechanical).

After some googling I can see that more are experience the issues I have, but no real solution to it.
From what I can read, it looks to be random for some? One day it works, another it does not?

I appreciate any help.

It looks like something is stuck? When I try and open a project the CPU is doing something (nothing else heavy or browser in the background is running) but nothing happens for about 3-5 minutes. Then it suddenly loads the project.

If I use a tool from Microsoft called Process Explorer I can see this thread using most of the CPU, I guess waiting for something hence it's stuck?

The troubleshooting continues. Yesterday it worked just fine. The projects started straight away.
But today, is back to taking 3-5 minutes before it loads.

I check the process in Process Explorer again, but looked in the TCP tab instead and I can see it opens and closes a connection almost every second.

It continues open and close connections until the project opens then it's only 1 connection.

Is this 18.0.1?
Do you have and ethernet connected disk drives selected in Resolve preferences?
If so, are they connected?
Do you have any control panels selected in Resolve preferences?
If so, are they connected?

Thanks for the reply!

I'm using 18.0.1.0003.

I have network drives connected to my PC, but they are not used for anything in Davinci Resolve, or selected in Davinci Resolve. I have my Media Storage on a drive other than Windows though (still a SSD)

I have no control panels.

I'm having this exact same issue on two different computers. Did you find a fix for it?

I was finally able to fix it by doing this

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=143588&p=792420&hilit=slow+load#p774605

This seems to be the source

Sempai wrote:...I saw that DaVinci starts trying to load the fuscript.exe file in the DaVinci Resolve install folder. It would exit immediately after starting, repeatedly. I saw that fuscript could be run from the Command Prompt in a server mode, and when I tried it I got this:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve>fuscript -s
FusionScript Server [18052] failed to bind socket: Error 1

I then started watching the output of netstat.exe on my box, and saw that Resolve was trying to contact port 1144 on my own system. Watching fuscript closely, I found that it was trying to open a socket and listen on 1144, but it was being blocked. The weird thing was, nothing else was actively listening on port 1144 to cause fuscript to fail.

Some more troubleshooting found the root cause: my system's DynamicPortRange had somehow been moved ...
Hope that helps anyone, as it was definitely maddening...

Is Resolve requiring the hard-coded port 1144? Is there any reason it's not just allocating a port in the configured available area? If it can't do that can it least notice what went wrong and tell the user? These sorts of problems are - as Scott has said - maddening to track down - especially for non-technical users.
