Since installing 18, I get a busy cursor for several seconds with great frequency. This happens when I'm simply doing basic cutting on the Edit page, not doing any processor-intensive editing or rendering. It's incredibly irritating. I'd never seen this behavior with Resolve before version 18.
Which hardware (CPU, GPU, RAM, disk I/O speed)? What OS? What source file codec? What timeline resolution? What framerate? Have you checked to make sure that all drives are listed in User Prefs -> Media Storage Locations? Is it possible there's a permissions problem on any of the drives, or perhaps the drive is momentarily going into power saver mode?

I've seen that too and my impression is that it's some combination of Live Save and auto backups. Those do seem to be taking more time in 18 than they did before.
To see if it's that I'd turn them off temporarily and see if the behavior goes away.

All irrelevant. This NEVER happened before 18 and NONE of those things has changed.

I didn't have auto-backup turned on, but I did have live-save on. I disabled it, and after working for a little while, it seems to have solved the issue. I'll work some more and see if it sticks. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hope you're remembering to mash the (manual) Save button occasionally, Jay... also, consider this a shout out for enabling the Project backups function. :)
