Now Fixed in 18.1 : Multi-Display Hell

Hi all!

I use Davinci Resolve 18 Studio Latest on Windows 11 Enterprise. The follwing issue is driving me nuts and had it in Windows 10 Ent./Resolve 17 also.

This specialized PC has 8 screens connected to 2 NVidia Quadro GPUs (4 on each), latest studio drivers. This is a work/production pc and no games or other crap is installed. It is very stable.

Resolve is configured to use 3 displays for the Edit Page.

More often then not, when I get into a resolve project, the previously assigned displays change and I have to reassign them. The process is even more annoying thanks to Resolves list of available displays not corresponding to Windows numbered list of displays. :-(

As you may know, multi display identification/number has really improved in Windows 11. Since upgrading to Window 11, all my multi-diplay apps behave correctly except Resolve: Blender, Unity3D, Visual Studio Professional, Bitwig, Nuendo to name a few.

Windows being garbage, I would think that it's a MS issue as usual but since the problem is only found when using Resolve, I thought I'd post it here.

Does anyone know how to address this issue? Is it a bug? How can I help in troubleshooting/resolve this annoyance?

Thanks in advance for taking the time and have a very good time doing whaterver you're doing right now.

PS: sorry for my approximate english :-)

The NVIDIA Quadro driver does install the tool Desktop Manager. Maybe that can help?
Unfortunately I've no experience myself with that, as with my two monitor setup everything works like it should. But in your special case this might be the solution.

thanks for your suggestion but as I said, Resolve is the only software I use that has that problem. All the other multi-display apps I use work fine and always start on the same assigned monitors.

The nvidia desktop manager creates zones to force individual windows to conform to the size of the zone. Windows 11 offers a similar functionnality and so does PowerToys. None of those address the issue.

Thanks for your help though :-)

I just stumbled over this tool, which looks like it could solve your problem:
https://www.displayfusion.com/

It has a free trial, so you can test it out to see if it helps.

It's a similar tool to nvidia desktop experience and realtimesoft's ultramon. None of those address this Resolve specific problem, and no other installed apps on the pc need such solution to work out of the box with multi-displays on Windows 11.

Will submit this issue to BMD support directly, as it is easy to reproduce on a pc with 2 gpu and multi-dispays connected accross both of them

Thanks for your help :)

Resovle only works, and expects, all displays on the one GPU.

Good point!
I forgot to mention that all the Resolve assigned displays are connected to the same GPU.
But the problem remains.

Moreover, I just validated that the problem does not present itself on another workstation where all 4 displays are connected to the only RTX A4000 it contains.

Now, I'm waiting fot the parts to replace the casing, cooling system and one of the gpu for a faster one, on the 8 display workstation. In the process, I will validate step by step if the problem appears as soon as I insert a second gpu, even if it is not used by /assigned to resolve.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Just a quit post to report that with the newly released 18.1 and 2 gpus, (Quadro RTX A4000 and Quadro P4000) connected to 8 monitors, the issue is fixed and could not be happier.

Thanks BMD

Glad to hear it works now. Would you mind posting a photo of your setup - just for us mere mortals to envy your edit bay?
