Why Does DaVinci Resolve 18 Keep Crashing?

PostSun Aug 14, 2022 6:06 am

I just installed DaVinci Resolve 18 on my laptop, and for some reason, it keeps doing this weird pixel freeze with the "Not Responding" error message. My laptop specs fulfill the recommended requirements and even go a little above. So I'm not sure why this is happening. I've tried all the recommended "solutions" and nothing is working. I will upload pictures of the problem and I will list my laptop specs below. Hope someone can help resolve this for me. Thanks.

My Laptop Specs:

Windows 11 Home
AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H (up to 4.4 GHz max boost clock, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores, 16 threads)
AMD Integrated SoC 16 MB L3
16 GB RAM
1 TB SSD
40.9 cm (16.1 "), QHD (2560 x 1440), 165 Hz, 3 ms response time, 300 nits, 100% sRGB
AMD Radeon™ RX 6600M (8 GB)

Looks like GPU.
Please see the FAQs above

Hi, yes I can tell you by looking at the images. There is something wrong with your GPU (I believe video memory) or RAM. You should check your hardware, maybe driver issue?

Try this:

Good luck finding out what's wrong.

Hi I'm not sure if this is related to your actual problem, but I had constant issues with the new Davinci resolve 18 crashing continually. I searched over and over and tried all the solutions(cache, Compatibility, Optimized Media etc etc) and they didn't work. Meanwhile, trying to run a completley unrelated program there was an issue with the resolution on my screen being too high. Nothing to do with Resolve whatsoever, however it caused me to have to change my resolution from the natural 2560x1080 to 1270x720. This didn't solve the problem either.

Long Story short.

I found the issue with both programs to be a SCALING issue within windows. I think increasing the scaling in display settings (mine was at 175%) causes resolve to have to compensate/recompensate in unpredictable ways, causing it to crash. This happened in any of the pages I tried to work in, scrubbing in MEDIA/CUT/EDIT or working in FUSION/FAIRLIGHT.

SETTING MY SCALING to 100% in DISPLAY SETTINGS completley resolved ( ) my problems.

as this is the most recent thread about this resolve crashing issue i posted this here incase it helps anyone else. I don't have a particularly powerful setup (integrated graphics)but resolve is now back to working perfectly for me again, and the solution was sooooooooooooooo simple.
