Help finding workaround with "proxies"

PostSun Aug 14, 2022 12:52 pm

Hello people! I hope you are keeping well.

I have a question that maybe someone can help me sort out.
I was filming with my GH6 at 5.7 K 48p an event that results in a full file of 25 minutes. I knew in advance my pc was not gonna going to handle that playback very smooth, so I outputed the signal to an atomos ninja V and recorded a prores LT version at 1080p.
Since I started the recording form the camera a little earleir than the atomos, the files are not exactly the same. My question is:
Is ther a way I can link the lq version to that other 5.7k file? Or would I have to mannually match them?
I'm asking because I need to create a multicam clip with 3 more angles, and I cant figure out how would I replace one by one of the cuts if I have to use the second option.
Any feedback and suggestion will be appreciated!
Thanks!

I would suggest using your 5.7K footage in Resolve and letting Resolve generate proxies. It doesn't sound like your 1080p recorded by the Ninja would be easy to use. Maybe others have different ideas.

I second Steve's suggestion. Forget the Ninja, let Resolve create the proxies.

You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Steve, thanks for your reply. The only reason I would like to use the Atomos file, it's because it's already in a codec thatn my pc reads good, and I wanted to start editing right away. By letting DaVincio create the proxy, it takes 1:30 hs of rendering with my current set up, which is quite a lot.

Is no way to link those two files?
THanks

You've already spent an hour looking to make ProRes work.

Maybe start that proxy creation now, while your waiting. ;)

If the timecode for the GH6 native file and Ninja recordings are correctly synced then you can just reconform to the matching clips.

Good suggestion, Andy.

Do you know if there is any way to reconform sync'd clips? I wonder if there is a way to sync the source and proxy by audio and reconform on that basis (sort of like a Multicam clip). This in the event that the source and Ninja do not share the same time code.

Andy thanks for the reply. I'm affraid that slipped my mind and the timecode does not match.

The only idea I had so far is match the proxie with the original file, create a compound clip, and mute the original file track. The use that compound to create the multicam. Now, the frustrating part is I have to then, deccompos and chance the track and mute the proxy one, which turns into a extra work, but not as long as the render times DR is giving me for generatin the proxies.

Any other suggestion will be welcome!
