New Audio Sync problem in 18+

PostMon Aug 15, 2022 12:05 am

Version
Resolve 18.01 free, Windows 11.

Trying To Do
Auto Sync Audio > Based on Waveform. Trying to replace the in-camera audio in a video file (.mp4) with the separately recorded audio (.wav) that recorded a direct feed from the mic.

What Happens
Since the upgrade to 18, the sync runs for a short period before reporting a "no match" type message.

Why I think this should work
On this same PC, this worked perfectly in Davinci 17+.

Also, if I take the exact video and audio files across to my second PC (Davinci 17+, Windows 10), the sync works perfectly every time.

So it's not a problem with my video or audio files, since the sync does work on the other PC.

Work Around
Currently, I move my files across to the other PC (Davinci 17), and sync the audio to the video files there. That works 100% of the time. I then export the project, and copy it back to my Davinci 18 machine.

What I've tried so far
I tried rolling Davinci back to 18.0.0. The problem still exists. Because of the upgrade to the database, I'm unable to roll it back to 17.

I've also searched extensively to see if others are having the same problem, but I've found nothing.

Is anybody experiencing the same issue? And what could be causing this?

Here is the link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing . Confirmed that the syncing worked on my 17.4.6 machine, but not on my 18.01

Hi James

We're missing something as we've tried on multiple platforms and we're not able to see the issue even with the media provided.

Can you add some info to the following:
a. hardware & setup - Windows 11, <hardware & peripherals description>
b. Resolve version - you're on 18.0.1 build 3 right?
c. add a step-by-step walkthrough to show this effect from scratch.
d. explain what the expectation (or 17.4.6 behavior) was and what the issue is (i.e. no change? bad sync? bad audio after sync?)

As an example, our test steps were as follows:
Download the sample clips and the test.drp from your link.

1. In a new 18.0.1 project library, import test.drp
2. Right click in the media pool, relink to the downloaded media.
3. select both, right click and sync by waveform (both append and non-append)

1. Create a new project
2. in a new media pool folder, drag in both downloaded samples.
3. select both, right click and sync by waveform (both append and non-append)

In our case, the behavior and expectation matched - the expected sync values matched between 17.4.6 and 18.

Sure. My system is Windows 11 Pro, 22H2, OS build 22622.575. That is a beta build.

PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core, 32 GB ram. Some other hardware of course. But importantly, none of the hardware changed between DaVinci 17 on this computer and the in-place upgrade to v18.

Resolve version is 18.0.1 (build 3).

Importantly, I did update Windows 10 -> Windows 11 around the same time I updated DaVinci 17 -> Davinci 18. So I think this may be important. However, I can't wind back Windows 11 to Windows 10, and I can't wind back Davinci 18 to Davinci 17, so I'm at a loss of how to individually test those two things in isolation.

I've uploaded a video showing my actions, in the previous link, called Failed Sync Example.mp4 . I also step through my Resolve settings, in case that's important.

I'm having the same issue, I can't get Audio Sync to work ever since upgrading to 18.0.3.
The issue is, at the same time I also upgraded my Laptop to a way more powerful video editing PC.

For some reason all of my Videos are missing the first 20 seconds of waveform in the audio track. You can hear the Audio, but Resolve is shows nothing for the first 20 seconds. I'm guessing this is the caused of the Audio sync issue (if there's no waveform for the first 20 sec, then how can it sync on waveform).

Do you have the same issue (waveform not complete)?
Thanks

I too am having the same issue. This does work on my M1 Mac with the same clips. I also didn't have the issue on V17 on this same computer. I don't know if the upgrade to v18, Win10 > Win11, or something else broke this.

Here are some of the details of the system that isn't working.
Win 11 Pro 22H2
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
32Gb RAM
GTX 1660 Ti (Driver 522.25)

Hey, same here!
(Macbook Pro M1 Max)
I thought it was the crappy audio recorded in a full Olympic size ice rink (very echoey).
So there may be hope yet then in a later version?
Takes me ages to sync up 3 or 4 small cameras before I can even start proper MultiCam editing.
The mobile cameras on the skaters are tiny so no chance of timecode!

There is an issue with audio and the 22H2 update. Until BMD gets that handled, you should Uninstall 22H2.

Auto Sync Failed. I have tried for 3 hours, finaly just used Abobe Premiere Pro, that works every time, always. This is always a big problem with DR and looks like its ongoing. Man I wish they would get this to work and I could start using DR. I use Audio Sync on everything I do, I really need this to work. The project I just did had 5 clips and the Audio Sync only worked on 2 of the 5, I would say thats not a good ratio.

And when setting up DR 18 still detects my Windows 11 as windows 10, a bit behind ont that I would say.

The beginning and ends are there in my audio tracks. And like I said Adobe Premiere does not have any issues with Syncing the tracks, it's a DR issue for sure.

Do you use the DaVinci 18.1.1 - the waveform issue is confirmed to be fixed, but for the most important part it the lack of the working Audio Sync function?

I just need any confirmation before the update from 18.0.4 to 18.1.1 as the updates made more problems than features ;) (like from 17->18 and no reverting back when the 18 couldn't render the projects)
