new system - clean install

PostMon Aug 15, 2022 8:30 pm

hello all,

I recently upgraded my video editing rig, old and new systems are linux based, updated to latest versions.

before I powered down the previous system I performed the following:

studio 17.x
backed up database
updated to 18
backed up database to version 18
de-registered DR studio.

build new system
installed DR studio from repos
launched DR studio --> entered activation key
imported version 18 database

all my projects seemed to be there,

when I open a project, all of the video files are blank, won't show any video. I re-linked them thinking this would help but it did not.

I am not sure what is missing from the new system.

old system:
amd 8 core cpu
nvidia 9600 GPU
32gb ram

new system
amd ryzen 5000 12 core cpu
radeon 6700 xt GPU (tried open source and proprietary drivers by using the 'progl' wrapper; progl /opt/resolve/bin/resolve)

any ideas what could be missing from my new install?

cheers,

What's missing is an NVIDIA GPU.

AMD drivers seem challenging to make work in Linux.

You can look through the big Linux Install Issues thread for AMD Driver stuff. Could find some helpful info.

Here's a link to a post I made for something that worked for me early last year. YMMV:

thanx for the speedy response, I used to think that about the gpu's, though since the AMD drivers are built into the kernel, I'd say they are not as challenging. :)..

it appeared I had the incorrect opencl driver installed, once I installed the proprietary opencl driver for AMD, everything seems to be working correctly.

marking as solved.
