Transformation position units relative to clip size?

PostWed Aug 17, 2022 8:48 am

Hi.
I have a timeline that is 1920x1080 and a clip inside that is 1280x720.
Say I want to move the clip so that the center of it will be on the right edge of the canvas.
My canvas is 1920 so I'd expect to set the X position to be absolute on the canvas so setting it to 960 (1920 / 2) should do the trick, but that is not working:

I have to set X to 1440 to get the effect:

It seems that the unit in the Position is relative to a given clip resolution (i.e. the same value of 300 would make a different movement for two clips with different resolutions).

Is that intentional? It seems quite confusing. Also, when I exported the timeline in FCPXML format and import it with Final Cut Pro, the value of 960 worked as expected so this makes export/import incompatible between these two.

I've run into this myself.

I think I'm accustomed to these values being a percentage, or "resolution independent", as it were.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
