Audio problems after Windows 11 22H2 update

I updated my Windows 11 to 22H2 through the Release Preview channel of Windows insider (the update is going to be released for the general public at the end of September).

I noticed some audio problems with videos that are rendered from Resolve (mp4 or mov) and have AAC as audio codec

The first 20 seconds of the audio waveform of those files appears as muted:

The audio is also muted during playback and final render for the first 2 seconds. They play fine in the source viewer.

I found the following workarounds:

1. You can solve the problem by placing the clips inside a compound clip, the waveform looks normal and there is no muted audio during playback or render

2. If you trim one or more frames from the beginning the clips play and render fine (the waveform still looks wrong)

Hi Panos

I assume this is on 18.0.1? Studio? And that it happens even on a fresh project?

Can you pass us a link to a sample clip that shows this?

Thanks
Shrinivas

Resolve 18.0.1 Studio, I tried also the free version and the same thing happens.
It happens with old and new projects.

I tried also some other things like:
-Uninstall and re-install Resolve
-Re-install audio, GPU and chipset drivers
-Delete the cache folder.
-Delete the Blackmagic folder from the AppData to reset the settings and start with a new empty disk database.

Here is the link with some files.
MamIntro.mp4 (a simple intro clip rendered with Resolve in the past, it always worked fine when imported in Resolve before 22H2 update)
MamIntro2.mp4 (the same clip as above, imported and rendered in Resolve after Windows 22H2 update, the sound is missing on the first seconds)
I included also a screen recording showing the problem in action with some comments.

This problem seems to be related to Win 11. If you haven't already, have a look at this thread.

How can you say that? did you also faced the audio gap issue in 22H2 and you seen it fixed in latest windows update?

i want to enjoy new windows 11 features. but davinci is the main reason why i can't upgrade windows 11.

Does this problem also affect Windows 10 22H2 or is it just Windows 11?

Thanks, didn't notice. 22H2 just showed up in Windows Update so better stay away from it then, for the time being.

Making my initial audio clip a compound clip, as suggested earlier in the thread, seems to have worked as a workaround for me. Thanks!

Addendum: Update DVR 18.1. I noticed the following: NEW project works with the display of the wavy line, existing projects are NOT accepted - BUT if I relink the relevant clips ("relink") then I have the full display again - it works like this (even if with Detours, but I can live with that). Hopefully not just for this one project I just tested...

The waveforms of the clips that you used in old projects are already cached.
You have to delete the audio folder inside the CacheClip folder so the waveforms of old clips can regenerate.
