Davinci Resolve 18 is still glitchy.

PostFri Sep 02, 2022 1:26 am

This is similar to DaVinci Resolve 17.4.6, where during editing and adding some special effects (e.g. green screens), it glitches. This is still the same flickering and looping hybrid last time. However this time for DaVinci Resolve 18, I tried to Reset my laptop twice, but still no luck. This is a problem since it has been addressed. I need a solution to stop this or a fix. This has gone on for too long. Thank you

The glitch I'm trying to address:

The glitches also happen when exporting.

That does look like the GPU is unable to cope. Also only having 8GB of RAM, if your computer does not have a discrete GPU, is not going to help. The recommended minimum amount of RAM is 16GB.

I'm guessing that the GPU reports errors if it can't cope.
At the moment it seems Resolve doesn't always (ever?) tell the user there's been a problem.
Seems similar to dropping frames - but worse since it's sometimes-subtle corruption.

Mightn't Resolve just tell us? Perhaps through a "media offline"-style frame where the message is changed to reflect the problem encountered?

Your machine seems underpowered to achieve what you are trying to do.

You’ll need more than that. You could try to work in 720p or with an older version of DR.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I'm done using Davinci For Good. As well as this conversatio

PostSun Sep 11, 2022 8:22 pm

I uninstall Davinci Resolve 18.0.2 and this time, for good. I've been using this video editor for over a year (Starting with Davinci Resolve 17). It started out good, but then when I kept on updating, These glitches arise. It was so annoying. No matter what effects, clips, etc, or settings I used, just glitches. Especially when rendering the video. I asked so many people for a fix and told them that its a software bug and not my hardware, but came back saying I need to upgrade my laptop. I don't want to spend money on a high-end system just to make Davinci Resolve work. I'm a small YouTuber with almost 300 subs with no monetization. I can't afford premium equipment, I don't have a premium computer, I have a mid-range computer that works perfectly for so many programs (But Davinci, that's a no). Even after resetting twice, no luck at all, new versions, no luck. So that's it. I draw the line for this video editor. I'm now using Kdenlive (Video Editor)and so far it hasn't had any of that flickering and looping glitch no matter if I use green screens, effects, etc. If Davinci Resolve was focused more on mid-range computers or on any type of computer no matter the hardware, I could have had a different experience that is less bothering. But as it is right now and probably always, it's mostly and mainly for people with high-end computers and professional setups working on projects bigger than YouTube. Thanks for letting me use Davinci Resolve at least. Goodbye

The reality is that Resolve is *not* for everyone, especially those who don't need all the power and features it offers.

I often recommend that people choose a more 'lightweight" NLE if their needs (and budget) are somewhat limited.

Remember that it's 90% editing skill and 10% NLE that contribute to the results you achieve anyway.

I'm a full-time YT creator who relies heavily on Resolve to create my content (which is why I paid for the Studio version) but I'm still using version 15.3 because it simply works 100 percent of the time and doesn't place too much of a burden on my aging hardware.

Everyone should remember at all times that biggest and newest is not always "best" for the job at hand. Choose your toolset carefully and in accordance with your needs and resources.
