Davinci 18 *really* slow to load

PostSun Sep 25, 2022 1:49 am

18.0.1 - 18.03 have all been really slow to load for me. Davinci 12-17 all loaded up significantly faster than this. Im not sure whats going on with v18, but it takes 2 mins to load now. Same PC as in sig.

I did some more testing - it seems that its project loading that's taking all the time. I had "Reopen last project on startup" selected (which Ive now disabled). The projects Ive got are not that big - maybe 30GB of raw footage split across 20-30 files, 1 timeline, ~50 mins record time.

This is very different behavior/performance than in previous Resolve versions.

18.0.4 is no better - still taking *minutes* to open a new empty project. This is new behavior as of DR18.

Resolve with a new v18 project library is often significantly faster.

How many projects do u have? How many project libraries do u have?

Maybe u could capture logs and NFO, and confirm u have tried with a new project library.

Opening a new empty project takes one second on my system (actually it is not even a second because it immediately opens Resolve). Opening a previous project (30 minutes FHD) with one timeline takes about 2 seconds. You should check your system for bottlenecks or your projects.

My humble machine needs 11 seconds to open a project with 1.5 hours and 1,800 cuts under 18.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

After updating to 18.0.4 from 18.0.1, Resolve was taking ~3 minutes to get to the Project Manager window whereas previously it was a few seconds.

I traced the problem to 'Acronis Active Protection Service (32 bit)'. I tried disabling this service in Acronis but the problem remained. I then added Resolve.exe to Acronis' whitelist which allowed the initial splash screens to load quickly but it still took ~3 minutes for the Project Manager window to appear.

A complete uninstall of Acronis 2021 solved the problem.

Projects - 48
1 project library, local

I have not tried with a new local lib, but will do - thanks for the idea.

How do I grab logs?

I tried with a new library - same problem - takes minutes to load the project (this is a new local library, 1 project in it).

How/where can I grab logs?

18.1 seems to have fixed this, or the update process of 18.1 with the project upgrade corrected it.

Projects now load in a few seconds vs a few minutes.

I found this thread because 18.1 is loading really slow :)
Before it was really fast. After the update to 18.1. it's loading for 3 minutes...

I was having this problem as well. I'm on an iMac 2019 32gb RAM OsX 13 ( Ventura ) using Davinci 18.1.4
I tried a bunch of solutions but what finally seems to have fixed it was going into the "~/Users/guest/Projects/your-project-name/" folder and deleting the "Batch Renders" folder.

Hope that helps somebody else.

Thanks for that suggestion! Acronis was the issue for me too. I have Acronis 2019, but I didn't have to uninstall it. I just stopped all of the active Acronis services. Then 18.0.4 project manager loaded up instantly.

I think I'm having the same or a similar issue. Resolve hangs for a full minute in LOADING PROJECT SETTINGS, and when it moves pass that takes 5 more seconds to get to the Project Manager window. It also takes around 5 seconds from clicking to open Resolve until LOADING PROJECT SETTINGS appears.

I think this happens since version 18. I don't have Acronis in my system so I suppose there is a number of different scenarios in which this occurs. And apparently it doesn't seem to affect that many people.

Just to update my previous post, a few days ago I had an issue that led me to reinstall Windows, and now Resolve is opening without any delay. So whatever it was in my case it seems to have been related to the OS.
