Organizing Fusion effect inspector components

PostWed Sep 28, 2022 10:42 am

I've been making effects on the Fusion page for the edit page, and my inspector panels are getting very cluttered. But I've noticed that some of the Fusion effects have drop down sections for different parameters. How can I do that with my own tools?

Here is an example of one of my titles, which has controls for several different nodes altogether with no indication of what node they are from:

And here is an example of what I'm talking about on a Fusion effect from the library (notice the collapsible and labeled section "Timecode"):

It's not especially straightforward and requires manually editing the '.setting' files ... it's relatively easy with a bit of practice though.

Here's a tutorial that takes you through everything you need to know:

Maybe/Hopefully, in the future, BMD will dramatically improve the user experience for creating Macros (Fusion Effect Templates). It really wouldn't be that hard to tack an interactive 'Preview' pane onto the Macro Editor window, so you can see (and manipulate) how published controls will be grouped/displayed in the Inspector.

Ah, alright. That's not a big deal to me, but hopefully we'll see improvements on this in the future. It's a shame that what I think is one of Resolve's most powerful features is so prohibitively obtuse, though I'm still glad they let us get our hands on it sooner than later.
