Audio Sync issues after sending files

PostWed Sep 28, 2022 9:51 pm

I've tried everything and I have no idea how to fix this issue!

First of all I'm shooting 23.98 fps on my Canon M50 and when I import to Da Vinci, the audio is ever so slightly out of sync, maybe 0.2 seconds or so, so I need to resync manually.

Once everything is synced I playback in Da Vinci and it's fine, then once I export I playback in Windows Media Player and it's fine, I can even export to YouTube and it still plays back fine.

The issue is when I try to send the exported file to clients (I've tried Wetransfer and Google Drive) and when they download the file and playback, it's horribly out of sync - basically unusable!

How do I fix this?!!

I wonder if the issue lies with your system.

Cameras don't normally record audio out of sync, so you may be adjusting for a system issue which the other systems don't have.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

How are you monitoring in Resolve? .2 seconds is on the high end, but not by much. 2-3 frames out is pretty typical with either internal computer audio or decklink (A/V playback from a video card with clean feed is usually in sync, however). You need to determine exactly how much it's off in Resolve, and work with the offset settings to bring it into line. Download a sync test if you have to.

Then try your exports again, and assess them outside Resolve.

I tried so many different render settings, but usually just the normal YouTube 1080p settings, MP4 (have tried Quicktime too) H.264 and restrict to 50000 kb/s.

Sound I've tried Linear PCM and AAC, bit depth 16 and 24.

Here's a link to the video. The rendered file plays back perfectly on my computer and when I upload to YouTube, but as soon as anyone else plays it it's horribly out of sync!

Yeah the camera is fine, I play back the raw unedited mp4 on my camera and it's in sync, I play it on Windows media and it's on sync.

Only after I import it into Da Vinci does everything fall out of sync.

This is an image taken after I've manually resynced everything, to show just how far out everything is... the orange marker is at the 1 second mark.

I should also mention that I've imported files from the following devices:
Canon M50
GoPro Hero 8
Samsung Note 10

All files immediately fall out of sync by about 5 frames when I import them to DaVinci.

What about before import, playing from the Media Storage panel?

OK.

Do the clips play in sync in the Source Viewer?
