Custom OCIO Config in Resolve

PostThu Sep 29, 2022 3:13 pm

Is there any way that I can load a custom OCIO config file in Resolve like Nuke, Maya etc.
I need to use my custom OCIO config which I have been using through out the pipeline.
I couldn't find any load option in color management section nor the OCIO env variable doesn't works.

Thanks in Advance!

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I don't know what your exact goal is or what your custom config contains but nearly all color spaces are available to convert in and out of with the default CST/ACES tools. If your config has a custom camera or display transforms perhaps you can build those into a LUT and use that instead. On the Fusion side of Resolve you are able to load OCIO configs.

Usually the goal is to match a particular workflow with vfx, and luts are not precise enough (especially with linear light)

The industry have been using ACES and Nuke LUT based configs for years. Not precise enough is an overstatement. Apart from that I did mention that ReFusion offers OCIO so no big deal for VFX. I just don't see any reason why you'd need your specific OCIO config if most of the I/O is simply jumping in and out of known spaces or why you'd want to use it outside Re-Fusion. Only if you have some less common camera or display transform that you need along the pipe. That's why I asked what the exact use case is.

Can you transfer the OCIO into a DCTL file? If you have to use ACES and the OCIO is doing a custom ODT you might have to do aome color management pipeline stuff after that to make it work properly.

Do you need some help with that?

Idk if im understanding correctly, but I know Fusion tab has an OCIO node, as I use it to convert footage to and from Blender’s filmic space for VFX

Don’t know if there’s such an option in the menus/ color tab. Would certainly make things run faster if there is

Note: just saw Shebbe’s comment mentioned fusion already— he goes into more detail but I’m still curious as to whether something like it is available in the color tab a la resolve’s built-in CST node
