Quickly Reconnect Files using two external drives

PostSat Oct 01, 2022 3:17 pm

Hello

I have two OWC RAIDs that are mirrored: one at the office and one portable where ever I am. I use both for editing and since they are mirrored they have the exact same folder structure. Is there a quick way to reconnect files when switching? Couldn't find an answer here on the forum or in the manual (maybe looked with the wrong keywords).

I'm on mac and davinci 17, though willing to upgrade if there is such a feature in 18.

thanks for the help.

Being able to reconform your clips to media files is a strength of Resolve so I imagine there are ways to do this quickly. I'm not in front of my machine at the moment but I believe there is an option to relink based on a change to the folder location.

You can link with one click using this icon.

Unfortunately, I don't remember if it was already available in Davinci 17.

However, I suggest you change to Davinci 18 and use Cloud Projects, then you won't have to relink anything.

yeah saw this in 18 but doesn't really solve the problem. cloud service is not an option for me as a one man show. whish i could by one click just change the drive since the structure is the same..

Yes, there is a way that has been in Resolve for a long time. You can choose a bunch of files in the Media Pool, right-click, and select "Change Source Folder". You don't have to do it for each folder. You can change just the first part of the file path.

One other tip with this, if you have your media in a bunch of different bins in your project already: create a Smart Bin for either "All Media" or "All Used Media" (I have both as permanent smart bins), then select all of your clips at once to change the source folder. An "All unused media" smart bin is also a very helpful thing to have, but I digress....

Thanks for the tip. Will try that out – knew this extisted but didn't get even close to thinking it would be for the intended purpose.
