You might be looking at the File Name on the left. Have a look in the Metadata.

the burn in menu offers 'clip name' which is what I want

'Custom Text' using the '%Clip Name' metadata variable will get you what you want.

I agree that, given the Media Pool offers separate File Name, Clip Name and File Path display options, if Data Burn In is currently operating 'as intended', then the labelling is very misleading, because Source File Name is actually showing File Path, Source Clip Name is actually showing File Name and to get Clip Name you have to use Custom Text (as above).
