basic codec installation question

PostSun Oct 02, 2022 11:15 pm

a friend who's a n00b to video editing is trying out resolve. he's interested in using the grass valley codecs. he's using windows. i use linux and see that i have the option to export using the grass valley codecs even though they seem not to be offered by edius for linux platforms. he also has them available in resolve.

this all makes me unsure if it would be safe to advise him to go ahead and install the codecs at the system level so they'd be available to other programs he might want to use. would that open a potential conflict between resolve and the system level installation? i doubt it but would hate to tell him to go ahead and have something happen.

is this safe?

thanks for any thoughts or experience in this,
g

I cut on Edius long before I installed Resolve, so the GV codecs have been on this Windows system forever. They're still available on the Resolve Deliver page among selectable export codecs..

All I did was install them from the link below and they became available.

thanks for the replies.

@visualfeast
and after installing they didn't interfere with or cause any confusion with resolve's native implementation?

thanks again,
