You need to put the log on a cloud service and post the URL here with one space somewhere in it.

@Gede: I can't tell from the logs what is causing Resolve to crash.

As a test, try the following, to see if there is something bad in the Preferences area causing a startup issue:

Rename the /Users/bmg/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder to DaVinci Resolve.bad

This is a hidden folder, so you'll need to press the <CMD> and <Shift> and <.> (period) keys together to enable seeing hidden files and folders.

See if Resolve will start after this. If not, please send another Resolve log.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. When I open the application the loading screen appears, but it stops there. I can open a new project, but I can't access my project manager or a lot of other features. I'm afraid the projects I've spent weeks working on have been lost, please help.

@Keith: The most recent log shows Resolve opening and loading project UPMC.

What exactly is your issue? And is there some reason you are still using Resolve 17.3.1 instead of something newer?

@Sam: It seems to be crashing just after the "Loading audio plugins" message. Did you add any new audio plugins just before the issue started happening?

As a test, open Finder and navigate to the /Library/Audio folder and rename the Plug-Ins folder to Plug-Ins.bak

If Resolve launches, that implies you've got an audio plugin installed that Resolve doesn't like.

@Akaninyene: I'm confused. You say it stops on the application loading screen, but then you say you are able to open a new project. Those 2 things seem to conflict. How are you able to open a new project if it's hanging on the application loading screen?

I see you have the option to automatically reload the last project enabled. That could be a problem if there is an issue with that project. I'd recommend not having this option enabled. If Resolve gets to a point where you can open Resolve Preferences, do that, select User - UI Settings, and uncheck "Reload last working project on start up". See if that makes things works better.

Unchecking the "reload last working project" box, unfortunately, didn't change things. I'm able to open a new project by clicking "file" and "new project", but when I click "project manager", nothing happens.

Piggy backing on to this thread rather than create a new one:

I had previously installed the final release of Resolve Studio 18.5 and I am now unable to launch it since upgrading from Monterey to Ventura (13.5) on my Macbook Pro M1 Max. Specifically, it seems it freezes on the splash screen once it gets to "Loading Fairlight Page".

Hopefully this is just a case of deleting a few files in the User library per some of the existing replies, but I'm not sure which ones. What would you recommend in this case?

Edit: after eventually talking to Apple, the solution in my case seems to be just booting into Safe mode and then booting out into Normal mode again.

@Akaninyene: I'm still not following what's happening for you. Please make a screen recording of the issue and provide a link to that.

@Michael: Assuming you are not using Apple App Store Resolve, open Finder and navigate to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve and run the CaptureLogs.app app. Send us the Resolve log it puts on your Desktop.

Same issue for me running on a MAC M1

I try and load 18.5 and it gets stuck on the splash screen at "Loading Fairlight Page" and then hangs with the cursor turning into the spinning rainbow wheel of death :(

Its weird cause i opened it yesterday and it worked fine.... but i closed it yesterday and trying to open today and its a no go :(

Hi Dwaine

I can't load the newest version of Resolve that is why I'm still on 17.3, every time I try to install it just crashes. See attached image for my Mac specs. Thanks

While it shouldn't crash, it'll be no joy on that hardware. Try on older version from the support page, like 15.

@Keith: Your hardware and macOS version should support Resolve 18.5.

If you need assistance with troubleshooting that, you'll need to install it again, and then if it's not working, generate Resolve logs and send those. Because the logs you've sent show no indication of 18 being installed.

If you use the Workspace - Reset UI Layout menu, does that help?

If you use the house icon in the lower right (which is the Project Manager icon) does that bring up the Project Manager page?

If you disconnect the external Acer monitor, do things work better?

Looks like last time it was working was around 9-5-2023 at 10:30, and perhaps exited abnormally with project BBC R2.

Then at 9-5-2023 10:40 and forever after, Resolve is crashing at the GPU detect stage. Which is pretty unusual for a Mac.

Did anything change on the MBP? Did you change/add an external display? Did you add an external Thunderbolt device which has a GPU or display related device in it?

Can you send a Mac System Information .spx file?

Hello!

I've downloaded DaVinci Resolve 18.6 from the Blackmagic website ( I'm using a MacOS Monterey version 12.5 ) and was able to install the application successfully -- however, when i try to open it by clicking on the app logo, nothing happens. I've read through some of the previous posts and went to the library folder, application support, ... etc to find the log but when I open the DaVinci Resolve folder it's empty.

Any help would be so appreciated!!

If you've installed Resolve from the BMD website, then open Finder and navigate to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve and run the CaptureLogs.app app by double clicking it.

That will create a Resolve diagnostics .tgz file on your Desktop.

Put that file on a file sharing site and provide a link to the file here.

@Chris: Your log only has a couple of config files in it. No log info at all.

Please send a Mac System Information .spx file. Generate that by selecting "About This Mac" then System Report, then you should see System Information menus at the top of the screen. A File - Save should generate a .spx file with your system info.

@Laura: Do you have a /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder at all?

If you see that folder, it should have LOTS of stuff in it, in addition to the CaptureLogs.app file. I don't know how you could have that folder and there not be stuff in it.

But if you don't have that folder at all, do you have a /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design folder, and if so, what's in that?

If you didn't have a /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder at all, that would imply you might have installed the Apple App Store version of Resolve, which doesn't create that folder.

Hi Dwayne,

I do have the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder. I've downloaded it from the BMD website, tried to un-instal and re-instal, the folder is still definitively empty. I have another folder called Blackmagic Proxy Generator ( /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Blackmagic Proxy Generator ) that has a folder called "logs", and inside that folder is this (i attached a screenshot). I still don't see the CaptureLogs.app file though

Provide a Finder screen shot showing the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder.

Make sure the Finder - View menu Show Path Bar is enabled.

Make sure the folder window is wide enough to show the complete path bar at the bottom.

Somehow your Resolve config.dat file has become corrupted, and that's what's preventing Resolve from starting.

Fortunately, there is a backup file that is OK. We just need to make a copy of that and rename it.

These files are located in a hidden folder, so we need to make hidden folders and files visible in Finder. To do that, do the following:

Press Command + Shift + . (period) to make the hidden files and folders appear.

Once you've done that, in Finder navigate to this folder:

/Users/dannynugroho/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve

Right click the config.dat file and select Move to Trash

Then right click the config.dat.bak file and select Duplicate

Then right click the new config.dat.bak copy file and select Rename and rename the file config.dat

Now Resolve should launch.

If you still have an issue with Resolve launching, please send another Resolve log file.

howdy,

I was having issues with Resolve free version while working on a project and my computer was running crazy slow. I later realized that I accidentally recorded in 5.4k so the massive file sizes were clogging up my hard drive. But anyways, the point is, I uninstalled DR. Cleaned out my HDD and was good to go. Or so I thought.

After re-downloading DR from the BMD website I tried to open the Application and kept getting an error message "Resolve quit unexpectedly". Tried to reopen it several times and kept getting the same message. I uninstalled and re-installed. And as you would guess, it came up with the same error message.

I have attached my capture logs as I read was helpful in previous posts!

TIA,
Andretti

Ok I will give that a try. I ended up installing MacOS on one of my external SSD and booted from there, downloaded and installed DR and it has been working, much smoother I might add, as far as playback is concerned. Might just stick with this, but thanks for your reply.

Looks like it might be an issue with your Boris plugins.

In Finder, navigate to the /Library/OFX folder, then rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.tmp

Now see if Resolve will start.

As a quick test, try the following to see if Resolve will launch. This process moves the Resolve preferences items, forcing it to create a new default set of preferences. If there is a preferences related issue preventing Resolve from starting, this should allow Resolve to start:

Open Finder and do the following:

We need to navigate to a hidden folder. To enable showing hidden files/folders, do this:

Press Command + Shift + . (period) to make the hidden files and folders appear.

Once you've done that, in Finder navigate to this folder:

/Users/potato1/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design

Rename the DaVinci Resolve folder to DaVinci Resolve.orig

This moves the Resolve preferences folder. Now start Resolve. It will create a new DaVinci Resolve folder with default preferences. Does this allow Resolve to start?

Re: Resolve 18 Not Launching on Mac

PostFri Nov 10, 2023 9:28 pm

Hi,

I am having the same issue as everyone else. My davinci resolve for whatever reason or whatever I do will not open (on mac). it bounces up and down a few times, then nothing happens. I have tried downloading the studio and free versions from the website, and the app store version, and not a single version works. I just want to use this software as it has amazing capabilities but it will not work whatsoever whatever i try. I currently have the app store version installed. I have a 2021 Mac Book M1 Pro. Any help getting this software to actually work on my computer would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We need a Resolve diagnostics log file. Assuming you are not using the Apple App Store version of Resolve, open Finder, and navigate to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve and run CaptureLogs.app by double left clicking it. It will place a .tgz log file on your Desktop. Send us that.

I am not seeing CaptureLogs.app for some reason. I went exactly where you said and tried to locate it as well as search it and It seems like I don't have the option to do so.

Hi Dwaine,

I'm trying to install DR 18.6.2 on an old mid 2011 iMac model iMac12,2 running Big Sur 11.7.10 for basic video editing.
I'm afraid the graphics card is not supported and there's nothing I can do with it, but I just wanted to make sure and see if I can run DR on this machine.

I've downloaded DR 18.6.2 from the official website, free version. Installed with no problems. When I run the app, the quick setup guide shows up and I follow the steps. It show a warning sign on the GPU, as you can see here:

Here's the tgz file with the log files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19Y2BOv ... sp=sharing

It shows a Fatal error: "Review GPU Configuration?", "DaVinci Resolve could not find OpenCL capable GPUs. Please review the GPU drivers and GPU configuration under preferences.

Is there anything I can do?

Thank you.

Yes: go to the support site and scroll way down, there are Resolve versions from years ago.
I'd give the last iteration of 15 a try, but if even that one is too much, you may need to go back further.

Which GPU do you have?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Studio 18.6.6, MacOS 13.6.6, 2017 iMac, 32 GB, Radeon Pro 580
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G

Ok, thank you. I have a AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB.

So there's no way I could install DR 18 then. I'd like to have some of the newer features.

Thank you.

Hello there.

The Resolve 18 requirements mention the need of a graphics card with at least 2GB of memory, while your 6770M only have 1GB of memory.

You might be better off with Resolve 17 or 16, although they both also have the same 2GB requirements.

DaVinci Resolve 18.0
system requirements for Mac OS

macOS 11 Big Sur
8 GB of system memory. 16 GB when using Fusion
Blackmagic Design Desktop Video version 12.0 or later
Integrated GPU or discrete GPU with at least 2 GB of VRAM.
GPU which supports Metal or OpenCL 1.2.

Not trying to hijack this thread. Mac question: is there a recommended OS version for 18.6.2/3 ? "Big Sur" is not very specific, I'm trying to have the most stable production machine, so I'd like to know what flavor of MacOS is the best. Currently on Ventura 13.4 on Mac mini Studio M2.
Thanks!
