Anyone with an M1 MacBook running Resolve on Ventura?

I'm curious now that Ventura is released whether anyone has first-hand experience with Resolve on MacOS 13 yet (it was just released this past Monday so it's early days). I imagine that Apple managed to break a few things in Resolve but a first-hand account would be more meaningful. TIA.

I haven't moved to Ventura yet on my newer machines but I put it on my older iMac (late 2017) yesterday where I also have DR 18.04, transferred quite a big project, did some poking and prodding in the edit and color pages and everything was fine. Not an exact or exhaustive reply but so far it seems ok.

Thanks Stewart - I suspect we'll hear from more users. Sage advice would be to wait for any machine used for production work, of course. I'm a hobbyist, so I'm not as concerned, but I'd like to know if there is a show-stopper bug before I upgrade. Cheers.

On a Mac, I'd just find me an empty SSD, put the new system on there, boot from it and try DR.
You have two licenses if you use the software key.

Thanks. I'm hoping to hear from others who've already done some testing. I'm not proficient enough with MacOS to feel comfortable with dual booting on a Mac, lol. Hopefully BMD will announce support for Ventura in the next update.

Seems to work fine on my Studio Max. Not done lots of testing just run the project I was working on it nothing seems to have changed.

Dual booting is very simple, just choose the startup disk in the system preferences.

I just thought I’d download it so I’d have a backup of the installer, and I could just hit cancel when the installation screen came up like I usually do with new versions of macOS.

Turns out there is no installation screen on this one and it just goes ahead and does it. Oh well what’s the worst that can happen? :):?

Brilliant!

Hey Tom - I guess the more of us that update to Ventura, the sooner we'll find any incompatibilities and thus help BMD identify them. Yippee!

I updated my macbook pro 16 m1 max 64gb and Ventura 13.0 with resolve studio 18.0.4 and only noticed one problem the fusion titles templates not loading. I have a .settings file under
/Users/xxxxxxx/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/Edit/Titles

But nothings shows up after upgraded to Ventura work on my other machine, anyone else has this problem?

I have not seen that but I don't have any titles in that location. I have had many crashes of Resolve 18.0.4 lately (following update to Ventura 13.0). I must say that I'm also trying several workflow approaches that I wouldn't usually encounter so it could be that and nothing to do with Resolve + Ventura.

Resolve seems mostly ok, though I'm getting some odd things in the OS itself, including a nasty habit of deleting my Safari tabs. I'd hold off for .1

Use a custom tab group for safari (the default group seems to get overwritten occasionally - same on my iPad). I agree that most users should wait for the .1 update to Ventura. Given that I don't use this MacBook for mission critical work, I was willing to upgrade (and hopefully be in a position to report defects, lol).

i'll never understand why people who don't just hang out on
social media platforms always have to install a new buggy system?

Right? And then when they take a chance and upgrade to an untested platform they are the first to launch into a tirade about how crappy the software is!

On the other hand, being willing to test the latest combination of software components is the only way that incompatibilities can be identified and then fixed. It's a double edged sword, isn't it?

FWIW, Mark, your comment doesn't really contribute to this discussion other than to berate those who may have taken a chance on an upgrade (at least that's how it comes across - I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound like a criticism).

no, it was not a criticism per se, but a statement.

i have been an apple supporter since 1992 and have experienced for many decades that a new system (especially a .0 version) leads to problems that were not present before with an almost mature system.
i also see no problem to try something new, but not on my main computer (or if necessary as a second boot).

the experience of the last years has also shown that a macOS system can be used as a production version at the earliest at the level of .4 or .5 subversions.
something similar applies here with the software, whereby resolve has the nose in front by far in comparison to adobe products here.

Been using Ventura and I haven't had TOO MANY issues.
I did have one issue though yesterday. My project Library for the cloud unlinked itself and I wasn't able to relink it. And during this, Resolve became inaccessible because the error dialogue box would not go away. It would endlessly keep popping up, preventing me from clicking anywhere else on screen. I had to uninstall the app and reinstall it to work.

Definitely good advice, Mark, particularly if the system is mission critical. So far I haven't had too many issues either and of course, the issues I've had could well have had nothing to do with Ventura - Even Resolve 18 is in its early days as you rightly point out.

Man, I see zero reasons to update to OSX Ventura right now. We're very happy with OSX Monterey... and it took us six months before we were satisfied that all our 3rd-party programs were compatible with it. We're in no rush to change.

Of course, if we bought a brand-spankin' new Mac that shipped with Ventura, and would only run on Ventura, then we'd reconsider. I don't see that happening until next year.

100 % agree with what Marc wrote... What's the point anyway ? The real point...

Making an external HD to test, well ok, though I don't do that anymore, no time to lose actually, but I can understand it may be interesting.
Isn't the real goal to be sure any of your main and important apps work 100% ok ? For me it's Resolve-Fusion-Mocha-Motion-PS/AI and further a bunch of professionally reliable audio & video converters, for others it's something else but hey, you know where the real core of your activity is right ?.
Of course, I prefer if any desk jobs softwares work too (like Transmit for FTP etc etc) because I'm used too, but even for those I'd be ok to switch to another computer for non professional video making stuff...

Ventura ?
Ooops, sorry... It's because I'm writing on an El Capitan machine here and now :D

Apparently both the Deck Link cards and 4K Studio mini hardware is currently NOT COMPATIBLE with the current official release version of Ventura. It would actually be a lot nicer if BM themselves would warn of incompatibilities like this due to beta testing new OS versions, but since they dont this forum seems the only way to figure it out before making a mistake. It seems OS betas these days are often not utilized by software developers to get their software up to par in time, but rather for regular users to test and find out these issues. I find that practice pretty bad though

Only works for you using Desktop Video Setup 12.3 ?
Currently, my UltraStudio 4K Mini is not recognised on my MacBook Pro 2018 running MacOS Ventura 13.0.1 with the Desktop Video Setup app 12.4.1.

Thanks

Hello
I have tried downloading DR from this website and the Apple App Store. I have also tried to download older versions of DR. I have an iMac (M1 Chip) running Ventura 13.0.1. Every time I do...I get the same result. I get the "not responding" message. I have also tried a few solutions that were offered on youtube and other sources but still no luck!
Does anyone have a solution that works??
Thanks

What 'not responding' message? When does it happen? What gives the message?

This happens after I install DR. When I try to open it, it simply stop opening and the wheel shows up.
When I try to force quit, Davinci Resolves shows a "not responding" message next to its name.
BTW....I have an iMac...not a MacBook
Thanks in advance
