Black Sun Highlight Correction Missing?

PostMon Nov 21, 2022 10:32 pm

Hi,

I just noticed that the "Black Sun Highlight Correction" is missing from the contextual menu of the thumbnails in the color page in Version 18.1 Build 16. I checked the latest manual, and the feature is still listed on page 2817.
I've searched for similar entries but couldn't find a solution to the issue, since this problem isn't specific to multicam in my case.

I distinctly remember still seeing this feature in version 18.0 and feeling nostalgic. Am I missing something?

I've tried this on the following machines:
- Hackintosh (3,6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, 32 GB 3200 MHz DDR4, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB)
- Mac Mini M1 16GB, 500GB Storage

Sorry, if I'm breaking any guidelines on how, where and what to post. I've read dozens of forum entries over the years while troubleshooting, but this is the first time I had to actually submit a topic myself, as i couldn't find another person to have the same problem yet.

While it has been a while that the problem showed up in BM's cameras, it's a pity that you dropped it from the software. I've seen such an effect from other cameras too.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Hi Peter Chamberlain,
Good to know, but retrograding from 18.1… is a real trouble on the same machine as it involves the database!
Any idea when it's gonna be available again?

Oh man, that's a bummer

Are there any plans on re-integrating the feature?
I've recently had this problem on my bmpcc4k running on the latest firmware, so the problem isn't unique to the good ol' Production Camera 4K.

It's one of those features that I knew existed but never needed – until the recent update, where it go scrapped haha. If it's really gone for good, maybe consider removing it from the manual, as to not give false hopes to other maniacs like myself who actually read the manual :)

Either way: I'm a huge fan of the latest update (except for the removal of the black sun highlight correction).
Thank you for your answering my silly little question so quickly!!

Since you are on a Mac, I'd suggest a separate boot disk on any old drive you've got around with the older version to fix such (relatively rare) cases.

please add this back, its a common fix that needs to be done on many camera formats.
Even just as a Resolve FX plugin.

Hi, can anyone at Blackmagic at least provide an actual explanation for the complete removal of this feature?
It will show a bit of consideration for all your customers using cameras with this problem and it will be much appreciated.
Thank you
