Manual syncing - over writing metadata

PostTue Nov 29, 2022 4:45 pm

When needing to manually sync dual sync sound, I've added metadata to Scene/Shot/take on the footage. When manually syncing and linking the audio in the Media Pool, the metadata is overwritten with the audio metadata. Is there a way around this? This is causing me to relog all of my footage.

I can confirm this bug on macOS running 18.1.1 Studio. Note that I believe I have seen this reported before so it's not a new bug.

Hi Ryan - Have you noted that you can export metadata from the media pool or a selection of media pool clips and then import that metadata back later? This means that you could log your metadata before playing with clip audio linking and then restore the metadata afterward. I haven't tried this but it might be worth looking into for a future project. Cheers.

In the hopes this is a bug not not user error. Trying to export a selection of metadata from audio, changing the csv file with a search and replace all function in Notepad++, and trying to import the metadata back in while using any of the available options, only imports the "Description" field in the Metadata panel.

So for example manually changing the zScene value in in csv only updates the "description filed for "zScene" which I believe is what the audio record sets as metadata. It does not update the "Scene" tab in the metadata panel.

I'm guessing this is a function and not a bug, but as it is now it won't work for my needs. I'll keep exploring this after I get through the manual process of relogging.

I was looking at the metadata for the video clip. Didn’t try the audio.

That is a very valid point, I'll see if the video metadata is any different

doing the same change in video files does work....

it looks like the audio metadata over rides the video metadata.

Changing the video metadata in a text editor does update the metadata when imported back into resolves database.

Steve, thanks for the help. This certainly seems like a bug, but I can save some time exporting and re-importing video metadata this way.
