Use Midi Controller for Inspector

PostWed Nov 30, 2022 9:34 am

Hey guys,

as i haven't found anything on the web so far.
Is there a way to use a MIDI Controller for the Inspector.
I've seen so many controllers for the Color Page but not for the Inspector.

I'd love Zoom and Position with real knobs instead of clicking around in the Inspector.

Thanks in advance and a hello from Germany :D

Only keystrokes can be used by a midi controller. There is a Mac app called CommandPost that I use to map my Zoom R16 console to keystrokes and jog wheel.

Do you use the size/position mouse control overlay in the Record Viewer?

If you are on an Intel Mac, there's this:

He achieved that with a very laborious workaround and I think he gave up after all the recent changes.

Yes, very likely, but not all the controls of the inspector. Only the controls for these properties:
Code: Select all
{'CropLeft': 0.0, 'ResizeFilter': 0L, 'CropSoftness': 0.0, 'Tilt': 0.0, 'Yaw': 0.0, 'FlipY': False, 'CropBottom': 0.0, 'Pan': 0.0, 'Opacity': 100.0, 'ZoomX': 1.0, 'CropRetain': False, 'RetimeProcess': 0L, 'Scaling': 0L, 'RotationAngle': 0.0, 'AnchorPointY': 0.0, 'AnchorPointX': 0.0, 'DynamicZoomEase': 0L, 'CropTop': 0.0, 'FlipX': False, 'ZoomY': 1.0, 'CompositeMode': 0L, 'CropRight': 0.0, 'Distortion': 0.0, 'Pitch': 0.0, 'MotionEstimation': 0L, 'ZoomGang': True}

Control Booster offers physical controls in the Edit Page Inspector for :
- Adjust zoom X and Y
- Link/unlink zoom
- Adjust position X and Y
- Adjust rotation angle
- Adjust anchor point X and Y
- Adjust pitch
- Adjust yaw
- Toggle horizontal/vertical flip
- Adjust audio volume
- Add/remove key frames on each tool
- Reset video transform
- Reset audio transform

I think its currently for Tangent panels under Windows only though.

I used Midigrade for a couple of years. You can modify it to your needs by mapping controls to the Inspector. It uses a midi translating software that can map mouse pointer position. It will require a bit of work to learn how it was designed. The main issue is that the screen position of controls must be fixed and that is an issue with the Inspector because the Inspector sub-panels can move their position based on which controls are maximised, minimised or user scrolling.

Anyone got any other ideas for this. I think I'm gonna just straight up ask the control booster creators how plausible it is to transfer the software use to a midi device instead.
I would just get a tangent wave or save up for the elements but it seems like an inefficient use of space considering I don't do heavy colour grading work.
I wish davinci could know people just want a more tactile and efficient workflow for the edit page.
