Ripple drag/move?

PostThu Dec 01, 2022 8:35 am

Hi all,

On the Edit page: Does anyone know if its possible to drag a video clip in between two other clips and it will ripple move? (Apologies, not sure what the correct terminology is)

Steps:

1. Click and hold on a video clip in video track V2
2. Drag in between two clips on track V1

Intended outcome: It pushes out the clips after the moved clip and moves in the clip you've dragged. Similar to Apples FCPX magnetic timeline or the Cut Page in Resolve.

Cheers

Double-click the clip to load it into the Source Viewer, then you can Insert from there.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Sounds like you are trying to do what Resolve calls a Shuffle Insert edit... that may not work exactly as you're hoping with respect to moving/shuffling clips between different tracks, but the basic modifier is to hold Command-Shift (Mac) or Control-Shift (Win) whilst you drag and drop.

I'd love to see this feature too Andy. I use it all the time in PPro... I'll check the feature request page.

As someone mentioned above, the CTRL-Shift method is pretty close, but doesn't work if you're trying to drop the clip where there is a gap on the other side. Then you need to do a cut/paste insert like someone else mentioned... extra steps...

I use it all the time too in premiere.
switching the order of clips is pretty common in editing.
In the EDIT page, A simple "one action" way to do it by dragging selected clip(s) is a must that I hope I'll see in resolve.
