Davinci Ipad beta

PostThu Dec 01, 2022 10:05 am

I saw a few youtube videos of people already trying the beta out and it looks amazing.
I was wondering if this beta is something anyone can access or only for a certain few?
Thanks!

Currently it is obviously offered to a limited group only. I'd suppose there'll be public beta later.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Apple doesn't allow beta releases in the App Store so any beta will be invite only.

Must be a pretty high number, I was participating pretty late in the test of some popular betas.

I'm not so sure. LumaFusion can export XMLs and together with VideoLUT you can try some looks too.
Pretty viable solution if you want something now and don't want to live on the 'bleeding' edge. You'll need a strong desktop machine as a counterpart to your mobile solution anyway.

Can we get clarity on compatibility? The press release is ambiguous and every YouTube preview has people asking this question in the comments. It looks amazing but could potentially lead to a huge group of people being disappointed after the hype…

Do we know if it will be compatible with an iPad Pro 2018 (pre-M1 chipset)? My guess is that even if it ran, the limited RAM of the iPad Pro 2018 would be a show-stopper. Consider that Peter mentioned that 16GB RAM (iPad Pro M2) is recommended. It's also worth considering that there's nothing magic about an iPad M1/M2 - even the MacBook M1 with 16GB RAM has challenges with only 16GB of RAM.

I presumed this would be the case, however, I missed seeing this explicitly noted and then Peter mentioned the following:

We are still qualifying done older models and system ram is a significant limiting factor.

Hi there,

As the owner of an 2021 iPad Pro 12.9" myself, I would like to get into this Public Beta when it comes

We use DaVinci Studio for our Church editing, along with a ATEM Mini Pro and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K for our Live-streaming

I am eager to see what benefits we can get from this Pro-level Video editing App on iOS, since iPad OS 16.2 came to the market

I also work in IT as an Infrastructure Manager and want to see the future of Pro Apps on iOS

Regards,
Christopher

Ipads without M1/M2 chips are feature-limited though. My old 2018 iPad Pro is supported but crashes on start. Installing the latest iPad OS now to see if it helps. I think I was on 16.1.

Haha, we knew the Fusion engine had to be in there as there are Fusion Generators in the Effects tab. But I didn't expect this. :)

It even has quite a few more formats and codecs it can render to, like DPX/EXR/CineForm.

It does work but I imagine that each of those pages has some tweaking needed to make it more usable on a iPad touch interface. However, if you are using a magic touch pad or a mouse along with a keyboard you may have at least access to those features. I tried it for a couple of minutes on my 2018 iPad Pro that only has 4GB RAM (in other words, a severely limited machine for this purpose).

Pretty sure version 1.01 will have these hidden pages removed! But it’s great to see the plan is to be pretty much fully fledged! I’m working in the media page and able to add keywords / search meta etc which is what I see as one of the main features of having it running on an iPad.

Allowing these pages to be seen is a bug and it should not have been possible. What an amazing bug to find!

It's an interesting demonstration that shows DaVinci on the iPad is the full DaVinci software but with these pages turned off. The reason is there is problems with the user interface on these pages where we need to make more changes for using them on the iPad. Plus there are technical limitations in the way these pages operate on an iPad.

We need more time to get them working and adapt them to some of the new Apple frameworks etc. We will continue to work on that, but we don't know exactly how long it will take.

Wow what a blessed bug. Atleast we become beta testers and report back what's going on and help the BM team in getting the other pages on asap.

Hi Peter,
thats not a bug it's a feature :)
Ok I understand it wasn't meant to be enabled but it makes the iPad version much more interesting I can't take my Desktop system out with me and this is fun. A very unexpected Christmas present from Blackmagic.

I hope Blackmagic decide to keep this feature available, even though there will be bugs in the other pages thats fine. Cut and Colour are the pages that are expected to work anything else that does is a bonus.

I wasn't planning on buying the iPad studio version, I wasn't expecting my Air3 to be able to run it to be fair.
I am up for buying it now, and I suspect there are many others too.

Thank you again for this wonderful feature

Hope they include more people for their next testings :P
