Can't Turn Off Clean Feed

PostMon Dec 05, 2022 4:33 pm

I can turn on my clean feed to a monitor using the menu or a shortcut. But I can no longer turn off the clean feed using the option "None". Something has changed because "None" used to work until recently.

I'm still using Resolve 17.3.1 due to projects I'm still working on.

I've got the same problem with 18.1.1 Build 7 on a Windows 10 machine.

This used to work.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the latest Windows update. It seems the "None" setting of the Clean Feed stopped working just recently and I did a recent Windows update. I can't think of anything else I've changed regarding any Resolve settings.

No problem here whichever monitor I designate as the Primary in Resolve. I have my monitors set in the Nvidia control Panel as number 1 to the right and number 2 on the left. The Video Clean Feed always appears on the monitor that is not set as the Primary in Resolve's Workspace menu, and None always turns it off.

I've got 3 monitors with an AMD Radeon IV controlling all 3 monitors., dual monitor is on, I can place the clean feed on any of the 3 but can't turn it off with None.

If I select None for the clean feed, it doesn't close that window. However, if I then look at the clean feed setting, None is checked and the clean feed display doesn't update if I move the shuttle on the timeline. It's a static image.

It seems that Davinci thinks it's turned it off but hasn't released that monitor for anything else to use.

Something else that's odd is that the monitor numbering in DaVinci isn't the same as in windows. What Windows calls 3, Davinci calls 2.

Ralph, your problem may be due to having Dual Screen on. It should be Off when using Video Clean Feed. Though you have three screens, Resolve is designed to use two, though you can put floating windows such as scopes or plugins onto number three.

Please state your source. I’ve been using 3 monitors— dual screen and 3rd with Clean Feed for many years, and it always works great. Hotkeys for enable and disable clean feed work fine in 18.1.1 as well.

Ben, if you are only using two monitors and Dual Screen is on, the default in Video Clean Feed is "None" with the monitor choice greyed out.
As to number of monitors, it says Dual Screen in the Workspace menu, not just Screens.

Respectfully Charles, I think you may be inadvertently conflating presumption with fact on this point.

Guys, for what its worth, all is working perfectly well on my Resolve 17.4.3 install. On my system, any attached screen that is not actively assigned as the Primary or Secondary display can be assigned as the Clean Feed display. Selecting None releases that display.

I raised this bug at viewtopic.php?f=21&t=171844. Basically if your clean feed is at monitor 1 you can't turn it off with "none", more annoying if you previously had a custom key for this function. It's also been suggester earlier that this function would benefit from toggle operation.

RainerL,

I just checked with my clean feed on monitors 1, 2 and 3 individually, and my 'none' hot key (a dual function toggle on my Stream Deck) worked fine on all. Also tried all 3 without my normal Dual Screen option enabled, and toggled all 3 as Primary and all 3 as Clean Feed, and could not find a combination that the hot key failed.

Resolve 18.1.1. Nvidia Studio driver 526.98 (installed with the Custom, Clean option). All 3 displays are connected to a RTX 3080Ti.

I use three screens with both Video Clean Feed and Dual Screen enabled all the time. Functions perfectly and is a great way to work.

I'm not seeing any issues with turning Video Clean Feed on and off (see my Resolve and Windows versions in my signature below).

The only "issue" I have with Video Clean Feed is that if I minimize the main Resolve window in order to use other programs it leaves Video Clean Feed active. Interestingly, if I merely switch to another program without minimizing Resolve it turns off Video Clean Feed off as you would expect, and then turns it back on when you return focus to the Resolve window.

I think it's something in the interaction between Windows 10 and Davinci. I went back to an older version of Davinci where the Clean Feed on/off worked and now it doesn't. Apparently this has been an issue in Davinci for a long time but a change in Windows has brought it out.

Kind of inconvenient. If I shut off the Clean Feed window I can clear that monitor with CTRL-ALT-DEL, then type ESC. Not great but it works.

I think you're seeing a small version of the bug. My guess is that the issue is Davinci isn't releasing the window which is why it doesn't go away.

To be clear, that issue has existed since I first started using Resolve back in Version 16.x. It's not something new with 18 or a recent Windows 10 update.

After playing with this a bit more it seems that this is an intermittent problem. Most of the time I can't close the Clean Screen window. However, after I was using Davinci for awhile today, it closed the Clean Feed when I minimized Davinci. It then would close it from the Menu too, but only once. After I reenabled Clean Feed, it wouldn't close it.

This sounds like a pretty nasty bug.

Yes, me too. The problem though is that now neither the hot keys nor the menu option works most of the time. This has worked for years for me until recently.

POSSIBLE WORKAROUND

PostSun Dec 11, 2022 3:17 pm

My monitor setting in the project settings was set to 1080 as that's what I'm delivering. However, my monitor is 1920x1280, so I tried switching the monitor to 1920x1080. That seems to work fine, I can turn Clean Feed on and off and if I close Davinci and reopen it, it still works, so this seems to be a work around.

What's odd about this is that if I'm running Davinci and reset the monitor back 10 1920x1280, the Clean Feed on/off still works. However, if I shut down and restart Davinci, it will no longer shut off.

At least for me, this is an acceptable work around, but Blackmagic should still figure out what's going on and fix it. My software development experience tells me that this is a major bug hiding in the code.

This isn't true. I am on Win10 and DR18.1.1 using three screens. 1&2 as Dual Screen and 3 as clean feed.
I can turn off the clean feed and Dual Screen whenever I need to.

What happens if you have all 3 screens showing and then you minimize the main Resolve window (i.e., Press "Alt + Spacebar" to bring up the window menu and then press "N" to minimize)?

In my case, the main and secondary windows disappear, but the video clean feed window does not. With the Resolve window showing I can turn Video Clean Feed on and off just fine, but it will not disappear on its own when Resolve is minimized.

Interestingly, if I do the same thing with just the main Resolve window and the clean feed displayed (but not the dual screen), the clean feed disappears as one would expect it to when you minimize Resolve.

Just tried it. With Dual sceen on 1 &2 with clean feed on 3 If I minimise resolve on screen 1 then screens 1 and 2 minimise but the clean feed on 3 stays there. And I can't put anything else on Screen 3.

So I get the same behaviour the others report.

However Resolve does work with three screens.

OK, thanks for confirming it's not just me then.

Yeah, I also use 3 screens all the time. The minimizing bug is mildly annoying, but nowhere near a show stopper as far as I'm concerned.

No it isn't just you. I find if the task bar is visable I just click on the icon and that will bring thr required window to the front, on any screen, and when I finish I just click on any bit of resolve I can see and all three screens come back. So my natural(?) way of working meant I didn't notice the bug. If others work the same wya I do it is probalby why there has not been an outcry about it as we didn't notice it was a problem.

My earlier point was to counter the silly suggestion that Resolve only works on 2 screens. Especially when several BMD pictures show Resolve on 2, 3 or even 4 screens on some of their set ups.

I just tested and minimize is broken in this regard, but ALT+TAB (the only way I switch apps) works great, hiding and bringing back the Clean Feed properly.

If anyone's still interested, there's been no change in this bug in latest updates, latest 18.1.3 still not releasing clean feed in certain Windows setups. Workarounds, but annoying.

18.1.3???? Another update!

BTW I am using Affinity Sw as a replacement for Adobe CS. When they went from V1 to V2 recently the size of the applications shrank by 90%!! They also got faster and have improved a lot of features. Given Resolves hisotry as they merge all the code bases from the various parts incorperated over the past years hopefully Resolve will get smaller, faster and more efficent/intergrated before it gets larger again.
Also some things that appear "simple" fromthe outside my not be quite so simple inside the code. Well not yet anyway.

I have found a workaround: Simply open and close the Windows Task Manager without ending the DaVinci Resolve task. After that, either the pull down menu or keystrokes will open/close the Clean Feed for the duration of my editing session.

I’ve been working with Black Magic tech support on this issue, sending them my Resolve diagnostic logs & computer NFO files. Yesterday they asked me if the latest update (18.1.3) fixed the issue and I told them it did not. I also told them about the Task Manager workaround so hopefully this might be a clue that will help them fix the problem.

Just wanted to clarify your workaround, Gregory. I was using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open the Task Manager and nothing was happening. In case anyone else has the same issue, you specifically have to use CTRL+ALT+DEL for this to work.

Thanks, Gregory, for finding and posting this workaround. It was driving me crazy!

Same on my end... it only works if I open the Task Manager with the Ctl-Alt-Delete keystroke. On my system, sometimes opening/closing the Task Manager doesn't work the first time I try it but it always works on the second try. It would be nice if I didn't have to use the Task Manager to jump start the Clean Feed controls, but it only takes a few seconds and it solves the problem for an entire editing session. I can live with that.

Thanks so much.
I have Studio 18.6 and was having the same problem.
Video Clean Feed set to None left a static image on the 2nd screen that could not be switched off. CTRL+ALT+DEL does the trick.
