Proxy

PostTue Dec 06, 2022 8:16 pm

Hi,

i just started using Davinci. There is a possibility to generate and use Proxy files. Thats great but i want to use my own, external created proxy files. How is this possible.

I was wondering if there is any kind of manual.

Kind regards,

The manual has 4K+ pages. Rather go here, assuming you're German: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/de/pro ... e/training
(Must have been written by a native speaker, I dig collateral German like "wie Sie jede Aufgabe wuppen." Compare that to Adobe's bureaucratic German.)

If you need another language, click the flag in the upper right.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Sure there is: page 189 ff in the current version, with additional information on imported proxies at 1058 "Importing XML Project Files".

Now that you have seen the video posted, I suppose you could place your proxies into a subfolder called 'Proxy' (located beside your source media) and provided your proxies are named the same as your source files (not including the extension, for course), it should work. I'm not sure if Resolve is picky about codec used - it may even require that these be MOV files - I've never tested this but it should be an easy workflow to validate.

It better be .mov because of possible TC issues with .mp4.

+1. Davinci will fail to connect the proxies if it cannot match the timecode, so mov is safest.

I "roll my own" proxies all the time. I like to burn in a bunch of metadata an d FWIW find the Grassvalley codecs really scrub well in Davinci while keeping a nice level of fidelity and compact size.
