Hardware requirements for resolve 18

PostTue Jan 24, 2023 4:14 am

I've looked high and low, but can't find the current hardware requirements for resolve 18. I have a fairly husky system (but lacking in gpu (NVDIA Quadro P1000). Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz RAM 64.0 GB) Windows 10 Pro.

I've been doing a last round of multi-cam videos before I archive the footage. But since installing resolve 18 (I foolishly didn't back up my 17 DBs), the videos are not in sync and skip a lot. (Just 1080P videos) Ran totally smooth in 17. Is 18 that different regarding hardware?)

Renders OK, though on playback an error occurs requiring a re-render. I haven't tried render cache yet, as I never needed to before. Bottom line, everything played back with no lagging in 17. With no changes, lags in 18. So, is my hardware inadequate for 18, though it was fine in 17?

I have the same CPU, but with a GTX 1070 GPU.

I haven't noticed any performance differences between 17 and 18, even with Multicam projects.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Quadro cards are not ideal for DR, the ‚gaming‘ cards are better.
One thing you may try: export your projects from the upgraded database (aka library) as a .drp and import them into a fresh library. Seems to be helpful in some cases.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thanks for the input. I guess my GPU is just not adequate. It's either time to get a new graphics card, or start planning on a new desktop, since mine is now about 4 years old. Good info about "gaming" cards being better with DR. Thanks again...
