Best way to access frequently used presets and assets?

PostThu Jan 26, 2023 2:26 pm

I have been working with Davinci Resolve for quite a while now, and I also understand the concept of power bins. Yet, I am frequently finding myself jumping around from one project to another copying a text+ or another element that I have customised instead of having to re-style it from scratch.

Is there an easier way to save specific presets of Titles, generators, and other elements?

A few ways come to mind.

1. Put the asset into a Power Bin.

2. Save it as a Fusion effect.

3. Export out a rendered file.

Though, it would be nice to have Effect Presets. You can vote for that feature below.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks for the suggestions, but indeed, there should be a way to save specific presets of effects.

The alternative of Expanding and re-saving something as a fusion effect/macro is really cumbersome

Hello

Depending on what you wish to do then pre-sets are available.

You can have Node Versions, Comp Versions, Macro Versions, Load Settings and Preset buttons.

Let me know the specifics of what you are trying to achieve and I will help where I can.

Hi

Let's start with the simplest one - having a title with custom properties.

I use the bundled Simple Box 1 Line Lower Third title quite a lot. I modify the following properties: the font, size, tracking, position, line width, line color, and alpha. Here is what it ends up looking like:

To access this without having to redo all the modifications, I usually copy and paste it from an old project into the current project. Is there a smarter way to keep it as a "preset" of some sort?

I think I don't understand what's expected here, but personally I drag things in the power bins, or I right-click transitions to make a new preset (findable in User afterwards) or, or I right click a node > settings >save as..., or I "open in fusion" > right click > macro > create a macro... All this depending on what I have to do with it and what asset is involved...

Hello.

I have a video out soon on pre-sets etc.

Bring your Simple Box 1 Line Lower Third onto the timeline and in the inspector select the magic wand next to the reset in the top right. This will open the fusion page with the Simple Box 1 Line Lower Third in the work area. Ensure the node for the Simple Box 1 Line Lower Third is selected and you can see the controls in the inspector.

In the inspector select the overlapping rectangles which have the tooltip "Versions" appear when you hover over them. Select up to 6 versions, and set the required parameters for each version you require. The version with the red underscore will be the default, so make that your most used version.

Then rick click on the node in the work area and select settings save, I always rename them. Ensure you save this new template in the correct location.

You then have your own template with up to 6 versions in the effects panel. Drag it to the timeline and select which version you require.

You can also add a button using the edit controls option and have as many presets as you wish.

If you are really struggling, send me some screenshots of your required settings and I will make you your own template with presets.

Sam, most of those suggestions work for single user/single machine/single database (or combination thereof).

think of 100 machines connected with literally 100s databases..... some sort of saving/storing/recalling mechanism could be beneficial.

Hey Walter
Glad you chimed in... ;)
So Power bins are excluded of collaborative projects in any way ? There are no way one could implement a .setting file reachable by every co-workers on a common DB ?
