I'm not a seasoned user, I'm a stocks trader using either Camtasia or my iPhone 14 Pro to film content for youtube only, in Resolve Studio 18 (Windows 11), just to set expectations.
Whenever I scour the web looking for 'managing Iphone footage' the speaker tends to focus only on either the project color management settings or the CST node, but never both, or the relationship between them.
I've also seen different opinions on the input/output settings, believe it or not. Even in this forum.
At this time, if I am filming myself, I have to use the front camera, but wherever possible, I switch to the back camera with ProRes HD 60fps (HEVC). It's all I need for YT videos. My desktop (recording resolution) maxes out at 1920x1080 anyway.
Question 1: How important is it that I manage the project settings, and if so, which color science and which timeline color space would you recommend?
Question 2: Which CST settings would you recommend?
Raw footage grabbed from iPhone (how it looks on iPhone)
Default project settings in Resolve (DaVinci YRGB Color Managed, SDR):
With CST set to the most often recommended settings (before correction):
NB. Overly red/pink skin tones i.e. over-saturated.
The footage actually looks closer to the original footage before I add a CST node. After that it gets messy.
Any constructive (on thread) input is greatly appreciated!
