Can anyone confirm or deny that the v 18.1.2.1 update on the App Store (approximately January 24, 2023) retains all the keyboard shortcut functionality of the initial release?

I upgraded to the Studio edition right from the get go.

This is how I access Preferences, the Edit and Deliver Pages, all of which are crucial to my work.

Many thanks to those who can provide this make-or-break info.

Well, make that DaVinci Resolve for iPad 18.1.2.2 as of this week’s update.

Some folks must be running this by now… can you share any news of shortcuts to Preferences and other Pages remaining intact?

Many thanks!

I’m running 18.1.2.2 on my iPads and they’ve both retained the shortcuts to Preferences and the ‘missing’ pages.

Thanks, David.

Without these pages, frankly DR for iPad is pretty well useless for Editing.

Colour correction + grading, yes.

Editing and delivering (with absolutely necessary control over rendering and compression parameters), no.

Anyone else who can chime in on this topic, would be enthusiastically welcomed.

This will confirm that as of today for me at least, DaVinci Resolve for iPad v 18.1.3 (approximately February 6 update) works fine in the “undocumented” pages accessible via keyboard shortcuts.

It’s a good thing too, because without the addition of the Edit and Deliver pages at minimum, and ideally Fusion as well, Resolve is of no practical use to me.

I was able to access the keyboard shortcuts window using [Option+Cmd+K] but after updating to 18.1.3, that doesn't work. Now only the shortcuts are displayed when you long press Cmd work.

How do you all get into keyboard shortcuts window now?

[Option+Cmd+K] still works for me on 18.1.3 but sometimes it can take 2 or 3 attempts. The timing of the key presses seems critical.

I tried several times now, and it just doesn't work anymore. May be it is keeping track of some shortcuts being used and letting you access that page?

DR iPad: keyboard shortcuts in updates? + USB3.2Gen2x2 news

Command-Option-K access to shortcuts is still working for me here with Resolve for iPad 18.1.3, though honestly I don’t use it often after setting up shortcuts to all the pages and keeping a “cheat sheet” of what they are.

So, in addition to the standard Cut and Color Pages, I also added shortcuts for Edit, Fairlight, Fusion, Deliver, and Media pages.

I also added one for Preferences: I have no idea how one is supposed to get to that page through the regular graphical user interface.

As you will discover, the icons for the additional pages don’t stay stuck to the bottom of your screen between launches of Resolve: you need to invoke them with your keyboard shortcut(s) with each launch of the Resolve app.

If you have a full-sized Apple Extended keyboard (from an old iMac) such as I use, or a Logitech or other 3rd-party keyboard with all those keys, you’ll have a double set of Command and Option keys: one of each on each side of the Space bar.

If so, you could try the modifier keys on the other side of the spacebar from the ones you normally use, to see if that makes a difference.

I usually have this ancient keyboard plugged in via my †“Anker PowerExpand 8-in-1 USB-C PD 10Gbps Data Hub” (of which USB 3.1 Gen 2 support is what gives it the 10 Gbps speed). Just now though, I’ve plugged it in through a tiny USB-A to USB-C adapter than came with my Wavlink dual Hard Drive Docking Station and this is working just the same… but without the simultaneous power, UHD monitor and other ports.

So, any old USB keyboard works fine; one doesn’t have to spend crazy money for a dedicated iPad keyboard.

FYI the only such USB-A to USB-C adapter I could find at BestBuy was seriously out-of-date and only supports USB2 speeds, to no good for fast data transfer but OK for keyboards and such.

Point of information about hubs and drives and cables and such: the latest standard (actually September 2017 but only being implemented more widely now) is USB3.2Gen2x2, which provides 20 Gbps transfer speed, which is half way to the 40 Gbps speed of USB-C 3 and USB-C 4, also known as Thunderbolt.

There’s a good Wikipedia page about USB 3.0, which describes all this.

So, if you haven’t the budget for the well-regarded CalDigit Thunderbolt hub, at least try to get one *AND CABLES* with USB 3.1 Gen 2 support (10 Gbps) like my Anker unit, or the newer USB3.2Gen2x2 (20 Gbps) standard, if you can even find the latter.

† By the way, the Anker unit I named has crap support for SD and MicroSD cards: the sockets are missing the additional contacts for high-speed transfer of files from camera memory cards.

DR iPad: Is access to all pages retained in 18.5.0.1 update?

Another month or few, another update!

Can anyone confirm or deny that the v 18.5.0.1 update for iPad on the App Store (approximately April 19, 2023) retains all the keyboard shortcut functionality of the initial release?

In all honesty, I find Resolve for iPad pretty well useless without access to the other usual pages, Edit and Deliver in particular… so I’m loathe to update unless I’m sure that BM hasn’t removed these such as via the keyboard shortcuts.

Ideally, all the Resolve Page icons would appear across the bottom of the interface, at all times irrespective of the keyboard shortcuts tip.

They all seem to be still working in 18.5.0.1 on my 12.9 M1 Pro iPad using my cheap Arteck mini keyboard bought off Amazon for £23. But I haven't checked all the features in detail. As before, the page icons only last for the current session, but the actual keyboard shortcuts are remembered across sessions. Fingers crossed that BMD don't pull the plug on this very useful hack in future updates.

That’s great news that they seem to all be working on your 12.9 inch iPad Pro M1, thank you @bobosola .

I also have separate confirmation that they apparently are intact on 10.9 inch iPad Air 5th generation (March 2022 M1).

So my guess is that all Apple Silicon iPads (that’s M1 and M2 processors) continue to support access to all DaVinci Resolve pages using the not-so-secret Keyboard Shortcuts tip as discoverable on YouTube and many other places.

If I were you with a pre-M1 iPad that works this way now, and access to all pages is important to you, I think I’d wait until someone else with an iPad of the same vintage as yours speaks up with news that the tip is working for them, too.

At first try a list of the regularly available shortcuts will come up, but after a few tries I can get to the 'secret' pages even under 18.5 beta.

Thanks, Uli.

It’s all working fine with v 18.5.0.1 Public release, too.

Every time an update works (keeps the *necessary* additional pages, which for me especially include the Edit, Deliver and Fairlight pages), I feel as though we’re dodging a bullet!

What iPad do you have? I wonder how people find the smoothness of operation of Resolve on older iPads, and if they’re able to work very effectively in HD and then continue the work on more modern devices at higher resolutions.

I’ll bet they never imagined that they’d be able to run Resolve on their iPads, when they bought them years ago.

I can confirm that DaVinci Resolve for iPad v 18.5.0.2 now on the App Store, works with all pages as accessed with the keyboard shortcut tip linked in my signature below.

At least, this is the case with my iPad Air 5th generation 256 GB (March 2022).

Your mileage may vary.

Lots of great new features and fixes in this update.

DR iPad 19.0: Keyboard shortcuts retained in 2024 08 22 upda

Hello iPad-ians!

Today I asked ethically and factually dubious natural language search apps (both use Large Language Models and are in no way artificially intelligent) this question:

Does DaVinci Resolve 19 for iPad RELEASED TODAY still allow keyboard shortcut access to pages such as the Edit page?

Perplexity.ai said

Yes, DaVinci Resolve 19 for iPad, released today, still allows keyboard shortcut access to various pages, including the Edit page. Users can assign shortcuts by opening the Shortcuts menu (Option + Command + K) and customizing them under "Show Pages" to access different functionalities like Edit, Fusion, and Fairlight[1][4]. However, it's noted that these shortcuts may need to be set up again each time the app is launched, as they do not persist between sessions[6].

MS Copilot said essentially the same thing, and BOTH apps ONLY referenced sources referencing the older v 18.x versions of DaVinci Resolve for iPad.

Can anyone confirm whether Keyboard Shortcuts can be used to access other pages such as Edit, Fairlight and Deliver?

Re: DR iPad: Are keyboard shortcuts retained in each update?

In my experience, the Edit page is extremely useful and the Deliver page is absolutely mandatory in a professional workflow.

I would sadly give up all 19.x advantages if I could not have access to these pages.

For what it’s worth, Mr. Alex Tech’s video says nothing about whether DaVinci Resolve 19 for iPad breaks v 18.x’s keyboard shortcut technique to access Deliver, Edit and other pages.

Daniel Kovacs ( youtube.com/@DanielKovacs ), the first or one of the first people to tell of this undocumented feature is mum on the topic, as of the time of this post.

So the question remains:

Does the keyboard shortcut technique to access Deliver, Edit and other pages still work in DaVinci Resolve 19 for iPad?

And looking at some of the headlines of other posts in the forum,

Are early adopters of the iPad version of DaVinci Resolve 19, experiencing any performance or functionality hits?

I forgot to take my iPad to the office today, but I will be upgrading it this evening and will report back re shortcuts. I'd be shocked if they prevented access to the other pages and judging by visualfeasts comment it doesn't sound like they did.
If I'm honest I'm a tiny bit disappointed they hadn't officially unlocked them for the 19 rollout

Yeah, I think that for BlackMagic to yank the “undocumented feature” of Keyboard Shortcut access to additional Resolve pages would really be a bad move. At least under the conditions to date, adventurous users can enjoy it without BM being obligated to support this.

As mentioned, I’m more than a bit concerned about performance hits. This fellow with an iPad M4 and many others are chiming in that the iPad version sucks versus their Mac or PC Resolve installs, even though the iPad is theoretically a much more powerful system:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=201883

Personally, I have no problems whatsoever with A7IV MP4 intra 240 MBPS 4:2:2 10-bit footage on an M1 iPad Air with 8 GB of ram… at least with Resolve for iPad 18.x.

I just got my iPad last month, on version 19.1.3 for DaVinci Resolve, and I can say that it DOES NOT work.
Well, since I'm a new user, BM has completely blocked any access to settings for keyboard shortcuts. So that means I can never have access to those other pages at all. It's very upsetting; it's the only reason I bought it.
Pressing CMD ALT K only bring up a small overlay of settings with limited functions. Must be new. SO no way of accessing any other settings at all.

I just checked and it does actually work - latest version, free not studio. I have an Apple Mini Keyboard and there is no issue. It’s important to press the three keys simultaneously. Holding the command key on its own just opens the mini shortcut panel. I don’t use the extra pages anyway. My issue with Resolve for iPad is the lack of touchscreen-specific features as it is very difficult to use without a keyboard but there you go.

EDIT: Just to add, it seems to be a bit erratic. I had to touch a thumbnail image in the media pool to get it to work after I restarted my iPad. But once I did that, it seems to work consistently.

Yep, seconding the above; CMD ALT K does still bring up the full short cut menu and the mini option is bought up by holding down CMD

I’m using the Studio version

Well that’s a relief.

How annoying would that have been to get DaVinci Resolve for iPad specifically because access to all pages is possible, to discover that it doesn’t work.

One thing I’ve noticed is that at launch, my installation of DR iPad now shows Cut, Edit, Color and Deliver page icons at the bottom of the screen.

I’m not at the machine now to check, but this could be because I had those active in previous launches, or that Blackmagic is now officially supporting these pages on iPad.

That’s great news!

FWIW, any USB keyboard works with a $5 USB-A > USB-C adaptor (or a hub), but I opted or the cheapest Apple Folio keyboard, which leaves the Thunderbolt/USB-C port open and keeps it all compact while on the road.

Bluetooth would too, I suppose…

…short of getting a DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard which is far larger and heavier than your iPad, but works with any hardware :)

Hey folks,

For what it’s worth, I installed DaVinci Resolve 20 for iPad today, and access to all pages using the keyboard shortcut trick referred to in my signature line below, works fine.

In fact, through a number of v 19.x updates, Resolve has remembered which population of page icons I’ve had from previous sessions, so the only shortcut I’ve needed to use is the one for Preferences (Settings).

Have fun!

@CraftyClown @Mylonas

There are plenty of reasons that you might not want to switch to DR 20.0 (or any new version) so soon after release.

In my experience on the iPad, BM seems to have dropped the ball on keyframe editing

DR 20: Audio ease-in/Ease out controls
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=222375&p=1151219

meaning DaVinci Resolve for iPad are completely out of luck if they depend on any advanced features beyond what the Inspector panel offers.

This includes audio ease-in/ease-out controls such as noted in the above thread.

Across platforms generally, you can see plenty of DR 20.0 problem reports
viewforum.php?f=21

Also check
Is there any reason not to update 19→20?
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=222349

Thankfully at least in my case, although losing the Keyframe Editor is a major problem for the work I do, my DR for iPad installation is not suffering the range of problems that users on other platforms are experiencing.

Remember that unlike on Mac/Linux/Windows, upgrading apps on iPadOS and iOS us a one-way trip: there’s no non-surgical way to go back to the prior version after “upgrade.”

Chris Duncan wrote:<snip>

That said, I never upgrade to a .0 version of any software. Shortly following the public release of any version upgrade is the patch release that fixes a bunch of stuff that was discovered once a wider audience than the beta testers started using it. By the time the final documentation is out it will probably have been patched a couple of times, so that's my target for upgrading.

Sure, a part of me wants to play with new toys as soon as I see them, but life was good before 20 released, so life will remain good even I'm not on the latest and greatest version.
