No option for GPU rendering?

PostThu Feb 02, 2023 4:34 pm

Hi guys.
I been rendering with settings that I thought was using the GPU. But after changing from a 1080Ti to a 3090, getting the same rendering time, I realized something did not ad up.

I do run the latest version (18) of Resolve. And I do not have the option to select "NVIDIA" for some reason?

In memory and GPU settings I tried both auto and CUDA. Makes no difference.

So today I verified by having both Afterburner and CPU activity open while starting a render.. :(

Clearly it still the CPU working.

Any ideas? Would be much appreciated!

Are you using the Studio version, 18.1.2?

You need the Studio version of Resolve to get the Nvidia option.

I use DaVinci Resolve 18.1.2 (Free) so far.
Nvidia 528.24 Studio driver. (Not the game ready)
CPU 8700K, on a ASUS HERO X motherboard.
MSI RTX3090 Suprim X

I read that from 17.4 I should be able to use the GPU for render(?).

Yesterday I found that I should not have the option of "NVIDIA" in the free version, but unchecking auto and choose CUDA would fix it? The screen dump above is from testing that, so no luck.

I got the $ ready to purchase studio. But IF I'm supposed to be able to render with the GPU on the free version, and I can't?
Then I'm not sure I would wanna take the chance by throwing $295 + 25% (Swedish VAT)

I got "a free video editing software" 3 years ago when my child was born.
By accident my choice happened to be DaVinci Resolve. I did render some videos in the beginning.
Then it was in idle for over a year. Now for some reason I got the urge to start making videos, so I threw a 3090 in my PC and expected rendering time to get a lot less.

Hoping to get this cleared out and looking forward to getting the studio version ASAP.

But don't worry if you use the free version, your GPU will still be used for rendering, just not for encoding.
Native can even look better, it just takes longer.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
