Optimized media metadata gone!

PostMon Feb 06, 2023 5:01 pm

I must be going mad or my previous experience or the Resolve manual have somehow failed me.

I have re-developed the need for Optimized media approach for a current project (i.e. generate OM with Super Scale baked in, as per manual) BUT I cannot locate Optimize media metadata tab in Media pool, or activate it, resulting in the situation that there is nothing to suggest that OM for a particular source clip exists...Even though the Optimized media generation does take place as expected, I can only tell it was generated by looking whether windows video decode graph is active (original mpeg) or not (OM DNxHR). I have observed the problem now in both R18 and R17. I remember in earlier versions of Resolve you could right-click in the tabs above the clip list in Media pool and put a checkmark before Optimized media item and you'd have it (AS PER MANUAL). But there is no longer the OM option to put the checkmark on.

What am I doing wrong? I really need help, professional either way  :D .

That column was removed a while back when Optimized Media became available to any project in the Database using that source clip.

It's a nice feature that OM only needs to be generated once for all projects (assuming you use the same media in more than one project), but to gain that, we lose any indication that OM exists.

Maybe try Proxies instead?

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Do proxies bake in super scale?

Optimized media metadata is still mentioned all around in the R18 manual. If a clip has its optimized version, why is it not convenient to show it's available in any project? The logic eludes me.

Don't know. Try it.

My own handling for that is to simply export out Cineform files and edit those.
