Headphone sound quality

PostThu Feb 09, 2023 10:20 am

Hi everone. Hoping to resolve this one.

I havent been able to figure out how to get the right settings for headphones with davinci resolve. The moment i turn on headphone output in the settings (my case soundcore2) the headphone sound changes from good to overly loud low (old telephone like) quality. Ive tried all combos in settings i believe so pretty stuck on this one as i like to do my soundwork with headphones instead of over the speaker.

Anyone with similar problems that has this one fixed? Thanks!

A very reliable approach is to attach speakers with a headphone jack to the mobo or sound card outputs.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Or as I do which is to use the dedicated headphone out jack socket on the PC with my Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro wired headphones.

What headphones are you using?
It could be because the electric output from the jack is designed to drive a high ohm speaker but a headphone is much less, meaning the signal overpowers the headphones.

I have a small amplifier hooked into the speaker output, then a headphone hooked to the amplifier. Gives a hardware limiter to how loud the speakers are and the amplifier takes all the electricity from the motherboard without problem.

The wrong thing is to limit the output volume in the OS, because that lowers the signal volume towards the noise floor, making the sound much worse.
