Resolve Studio not recognizing AV1 codec? -

PostWed Mar 15, 2023 6:45 pm

When I import media recorded in AV1 to Studio it does not recognize a video track but all audio tracks are present. Tested to identify that AV1 is the problem by importing media recorded in H.264 with identical settings otherwise.

I have the same problem. I converted my whole video archive to AV1. Now went to library and see... NO FILES :O
Went through Explorer and they are absolutely there. They are fine! Files in AV1 can be played in Windows with no problem at all. Trying to move them "dummy" way to line is not working.

I tried on my desktop with RTX 4070Ti and it works... Weird right? Resolve is showing files alright, but my laptop with RTX 3070Ti not at all. 3000 series has a decoder, not encoder, but decoder is enough to show the files for the god sake! How to solve it?

Well... AV1 is only supported in mov and mp4: https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... 7744010000

Remux and you're good to go

(mkv is only supported with H.264, H.265 and VP9)

Also called re-wrap and it can be done in Shutter Encoder if you don’t like command lines.
The process is fast and lossless.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

If anyone from BMD is reading this, the document is a bit misleading for Windows and Linux as it claims AV1 support in mov and mp4 containers. But you can't (yet?) encode AV1 to an mov file, only mp4.

So I lied. In 18.5 AV1 in mkv is supported :)
"Support for decoding AV1 from MKV and WEBM clips."
"ncode support for ProRes, AV1, H.264, MP3, AAC in MKV containers.*"
