Assertion Failed

Hello! I am having some issues installing Davinci Resolve. I upgraded my graphics card and now I can't install/run Davinci anymore. I have tried to uninstall and install multiple times, but it is always the same problem. When I install Davinci (if I have deleted all the Appdata) I get the welcome window where I can do a quick setup, when I am done I get this following message:

"Assertion failed!

Program: C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Onboarding\Davinci Resolve Welcome.exe
File: UiResolveOnboardingIPC.cpp, Line 124

Expression: p_Socket && (p_socket->state() ==
QLocalSocket::ConnectedState)"

After this if I click on Davinci Resolve again, nothing happens. It opens up in task manager but soon dissapears. What can I do?

My computer:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Video Card Radeon RX 580 Series
Operating System Windows 10
RAM 16 GB

I also have the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition if that matters.
I have also tried to install older drivers (and older Davinci versions as well) if that would be the problem, but no luck.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Resolve is crashing immediately after running it's GPUDetect process, which is basically the first thing it does.

And in the NFO Windows Error Reporting log, this is what's making it crash (translated from Swedish to English):

I don't know why it's using the nvcuda64.dll file, if you've removed the NVIDIA drivers from the system.

Look in Windows Settings - Apps & features, and if you see any NVIDIA stuff in the list, uninstall it, and see if that helps.

Otherwise, if you can make the C:\WINDOWS\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvaki.inf_amd64_6eb893147ae84f6d\nvcuda64 .dll file go away some how, that should help.

Thank you for finding the problem!

I decided to reinstall my computer to get rid of all of the Nvidia files and now it is working. Thank you so much for the help!

It appears you had an NVIDIA GPU installed before your current AMD card. And components of the NVIDIA driver are crashing the Resolve GPU detect process.

Try deleting this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvmdi.inf_amd64_3412f856dd9f8e1c\nvcuda64.dll

That will likely fix it. If not, use the DDU app to uninstall the NVIDIA driver.

Thanks! I've been trying to fix this issue for 6 months now, asking this question everywhere and you helped me :) Also, i used ddu before to uninstall all nvidia drivers but turns out there were still osme of them, thanks for everything!

Resolve is crashing during it's GPU detect process.

The NFO shows OpenCL errors, implying that Resolve is not happy with the Intel graphics driver installed.

The HP support site for your laptop shows 31.0.101.4502 as the current driver. But they only show a driver for Windows 11 22H2.

You have Windows 11 23H2 installed with driver 31.0.101.5445 installed. And that likely is the current driver for 23H2. But for whatever reason, the Resolve GPU detect process doesn't like it.

I guess I would suggest using DDU to uninstall the current Intel GPU driver and try reinstalling it to see if that helps.

Details for getting and using DDU are in this forum thread:

I don't know why, but this file is causing Resolve to crash:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ki127176.inf_amd64_86c658cabfb17c9c\igdrclneo64.dll

Try renaming that file to igdrclneo64.dll.tmp and see what that does.

Also, you have no page file. Resolve is going to be very unhappy about that once you get it going. You need to have a page file.

Thank you, sir, for your help!

I recently mirrored my old SSD to a new computer, and I guess some of the old files were causing DR to crash.

I should have just attempted your advice about installing the DDU app and uninstalling my old Intel drivers. Uninstalling my Nvidia drivers did not do the trick, but uninstalling the Intel ones did.

After I did that, DR started working again.

Thank you for your timely response! It is time for me to get back to work! :D

Resolve is crashing before it can generate any sort of log, so hard to tell what's going on.

The Windows crash .dmp file and the NFO show this file causing the crash:

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\igdlh64.inf_amd64_7948ecc1af5c27e1\igdrclneo64.dll

But it appears you have a current Intel iGPU driver and NVIDIA driver installed. So not sure why the Intel igdrclneo64.dll file would be causing the crash.

As a test, see if you can rename the igdrclneo64.dll file to igdrclneo64.dll.tmp. If it lets you do that, then see if Resolve will launch.

My turn! No error message, just doesn't launch at all. I get the product/copyright banner, and that's all.

Edit: Well, suddenly it's working. Not sure what I did different.

The Intel OpenCL driver is crashing the Resolve GPU detect process at startup.

You've got a 2 year old Intel iGPU driver currently installed. That could be the issue.

Unfortunately, the Acer support site for your laptop only has a 5 year old Intel graphics driver.

I'd suggest you go to the Intel driver downloads site:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... /home.html

And use their auto-detect tool and let in install the most current driver available for your system and hopefully that works.

You currently have driver 30.0.101.1340 installed. Hopefully the driver detect app comes up with a newer version than that.

Hi,
I have encountered a problem identical to the one described above. I'm not sure why, but I can't suddenly open DaVinci Resolve. I uninstalled the existing version and installed the new one, but it did not help. I have created the logs. Could you please have a look at it and tell me where the problem is?
After uninstalling the current version, I read that it is a good idea to delete the DaVinci Resolve files under Users/AppData, which I did. I backed up the files before removing them. Can the projects be restored from these files?

Many thanks

Your Topaz OFX plugin is crashing Resolve.

As a test to ensure that's the issue, do the following. Note that this will prevent all 3rd party OFX plugins from loading:

Disable 3rd party OFX Plugins in Resolve for Windows

If 3rd party OFX plugins are causing Resolve not to start, do the following to troubleshoot:

In File Explorer, go to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX

In the OFX folder is a folder called Plugins

Rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.orig

Now Resolve should start.

In the Plugins folder will be folder for each OFX package you've installed. Move those out of the Plugins folder one at a time, to figure out which is causing the issue with Resolve.

Of course, change Plugins.orig back to Plugins when you do that.

Hi Dwaine,
thank you for your suggestion. I uninstalled the Topaz plugins, and DaVinci now works properly. That is excellent!
