Exporting a 10-track QT movie for broadcast delivery

PostMon Mar 20, 2023 11:41 am

Hi All

I need to create a multitrack QT movie for delivery of a 5.1 soundtrack also including a stereo mixdown and 'music & effects' tracks. The delivery spec asks for 10x mono tracks in the (usual) order... Left, Right, Centre, LFE, Ls, Rs, Mix Left, Mix Right, M&E Left, M&E Right. All the mono tracks have been provided by our audio mixers, all done in ProTools.

Could anyone help me with how to set this up properly for export so that all 10 tracks come out in the right order. I have tested this with 6 channels (a 5.1 mix) by using a 5.1 bus assign and that worked. But I'm not sure how to set up 10 mono channels.

I am using Resolve Studio 18.

Thanks!

The Output Track may use either an "All Timeline Tracks" selection or Busses as sources:

Hi John
If you have your 10 mono stems assigned to 10 mono tracks in the timeline, per the intended delivery, then you should be able to set your Delivery preset > Audio tab > Output Track 1 to "All Timeline Tracks" plus enable the 'Render one track per channel' checkbox... that should get you where you need to go.
Cheers
Andy

Thanks for such a quick reply. I'll do another test with 10 tracks this afternoon.

Could I also ask, does Resolve alter the level of the audio on output? I have read in places that Resolve may also introduce a level drop of -3dB in certain situations. Does anyone know if this is true and if so can it be avoided? (I ask because I have had problems in the past outputting sound deliverables from Final Cut X, which seems to apply a -6 dB drop to mono tracks on export! Which then means the deliverable movie fails QC because the tracks are too quiet).

-3dB level changes may be due to pan law.

An "All Timeline Tracks" preference does not include Pan or channel level changes, but does include Clip Gain.

Thanks for this...

I'm doing some tests today, I'll let you know how it goes...

I'm quite new to Resolve (coming from FCPX mostly). This is all very helpfull.

Hi All

I've now done some tests and I think I've worked it out with all your help, thanks!

I have another question regarding colour-space but I'll post that as a seperate thread.

Cheers.
