Which laptop for resolve

PostTue Mar 21, 2023 10:05 am

Hello guys. I do some editing for a hobby but i do use fusion in resolve studio 18 with 4K videos which is a bit heavy.
Looking for a laptop that could offer the best with a budget of around 1500-1600 euros tops.
I am wondering how these combination play in fusion with 4k videos...
MacBook air (2020) with m1 and 8GB RAM - 900euros
Macbook air (2020) with m1 and 16GB RAM - 1300 euros

Macbook pro (2020) with m1 and 8GB RAM - 1350 euros
Macbook pro (2022) with m2 and 8GB RAM -1550 euros

All these are in my budget. I had never any apple products so i have no clue what should fit.
The only downside i read recently is that for some strange reason the new M2 cpu responds worse
Than the older M1 in 4K video editing.
Here is one of the reviews:

So what do tou suggest me to do? which one is enough ?i would prefer the pess expensive option that will do my job well.
Thank you very much

Both M1 and M2 will be great for DR, but definitely go for 16 GB RAM.
For M2, don’t buy the smallest SSD.
But then, no current Mac will be a great experience for Fusion. Some small things, like titles, are OK.
But for a good experience with Fusion on a laptop, you’d need nearly twice the money.

And another question would be screen size...
In mywindows laptop which is 14" with resolution 2540X1400 the preview screen in resolve is on the low limit for me...
The 13.3 mac maybe would be ok or not.it has different resolution and i am not sure if it will show bigger or smaller

Well, both 13 point something or 14 are damn small, even 16" is not really large.
But you can always connect an external screen (only one for MB Air).

Scaling works good on MacOS, has been for years.
