PreRendered Clips crashes Video Rendering

PostWed Mar 22, 2023 6:58 pm

Hi all,

My box is not the latest/fastes model, so when I create some more sophisticated clips I PreRender them (Render in place). To preserve quality I've set the output format to AVI.
These "intermediate clips" use the Cineform codec:
Code: Select all
Video
ID                                       : 0
Format                                   : CineForm
Codec ID                                 : CFHD
Codec ID/Info                            : CineForm 10-bit Visually Perfect HD (Wavelet)
Duration                                 : 18 s 760 ms
Bit rate                                 : 296 Mb/s
Width                                    : 1 920 pixels
Height                                   : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
Frame rate                               : 25.000 FPS
Color space                              : YUV
Chroma subsampling                       : 4:2:2
Bit depth                                : 10 bits
Scan type                                : Progressive
Bits/(Pixel*Frame)                       : 5.706
Time code of first frame                 : 01:31:20:12 / 01:31:20:12
Time code source                         : Adobe tc_A / Adobe tc_O
Stream size                              : 662 MiB (100%)

But it seems that the latest DR Version (18.1.4 Build 9) has massive problems with the clips it creates. When I render the whole Video, DR crashes ! The GUI quits and the output file is not processed any further although some DR code is still running and needs to be killed via Task Manager.

The Log shows:

Code: Select all
[0x00001ff4] | IO                   | INFO  | 2023-03-22 19:15:54,731 | Cineform :: Encode using library C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\plugins\CFHDEncoder64.dll

Problem is that this does not alway happen. At least 50% of the prerendered clips work fine.
As a workaround (?) you may "Decompose to original"

Give the FAQ a good read. It goes over some troubleshooting steps, as well as what information to post if those fail.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
