Converting BRAW to ProRes for editing later

PostThu Mar 23, 2023 9:19 am

Hi

I shot footage in braw. After colour correcting, grading, etc. can I export my timeline as individual clips, in ProRes format, to then use in projects in the future?

It is footage that I won't likely need to edit colours again (e.g. change the look/LUT). Just looking to get the quality of edited braw footage, and then export smaller files for my archive/storage, of footage that I could use again later.

Any tips on the other video/audio export settings for this would also be appreciated.

Thanks :)

(ps. links to youtube videos are helpful too)

Depending on the amount of storage you want to dedicate, ProRes HQ or even 4444 would be your options on a Mac, or similar versions of DNxHR or Cineform for PC.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro

4K ProRes can be even larger than 4K BRAW, depending on the chosen settings.

"Saving space" may not be a worthwhile effort here.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Another option would be trimming with Media Management and linking to the new files, so you keep your initial corrections.
