0.5-2 fps only when using depth map

PostTue Mar 28, 2023 1:35 am

Hello guys, new davinci resole studio 18 user here...

when i am outside i use my windows laptop (lenovo ideapad 5 pro ryzen 5 5600 (model 14ACN6)) to do some stuff.
everything is smooth when i lower on half my timeline proxy resolution.
BUT when i use depth map suddenly my fps drop from 30 to 0.5, 1 max 2 !! and of course everything is extremelly laggy.
is there something i can do?
it would be a shame to buy a new laptop only for an effect.

you can try to cache the depth map node and see if that improve it.

Depth Map is very demanding, my Mac will do 7-8 fps in UHD.
I'd do a Render in Place.

i tried render in place and sais "render speed :0 fps" and needs about 15 minutes for a 10 seconds video but it does not complete and quits davinci resolve studio suddenly. i tried it many times, the same again

Then you need to share the logs, they will tell you/the dev team what's wrong

Your laptop might not be up to it. Are you working in UHD or HD?
DR on the iPad Pro M2 is crashing with Depth Map in UHD, but it works in HD.

You'll definitely need a new machine of some kind, does it have to be a laptop?

But I would hesitate to spend a lot of money to try and get that effect, it's fine for some things but it depends what you want it to do. I wouldn't use it to change lighting for example, it's not consistent enough for that and you'll just get artefacts. I found it better to work with power windows and/or magic mask.

i tried to render in place with different codec and it gets 1 fps and it gets the job done. so the DR was crashing due to 0 fps since with 1 fps it gets the job done.
so we are fine.
thank you all for the advices.
