Nvidia codec fails, maximum decode surfaces (CTD bug)

PostSat Apr 01, 2023 7:04 am

Hi

After finishing a Scene Detection of a clip with many cuts at 60 fps, 1080p, nvenc created h265, Davinci reliably crashes to desktop, after finishing the Scene Detection.
I haven't managed to pinpoint how many cuts are required exactly, I'm not sure how I'd generate a video file with N amount of cuts (where N is a number).

The errors:
Nvidia codec fails to decode output after reaching maximum decode surfaces
3rd Party Decode Err(Failed to decode the video frame.)
Failed to decode clip <C:\Users\mads\Videos\2023-03-31 23-00-25.mov>, track 0, frame 107484: Failed to decode the video frame.

Logs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OmAbN5 ... sp=sharing

The only unusual thing I'm doing is having a Windows Remote Desktop on my secondary monitor.

Best regards
Mads

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. Have you solved this problem?

No. I haven't been able to figure out a reliable reproduction step either.

The closest I've been is the number of H.265 clips has something to do with it, but sometimes it's a medium number (in the 40-100 range), sometimes it's a large number (in the 1000's).

Happens both with H.265/HEVC and H.264

The problem kept me from doing anything for two weeks.
I even bought a new laptop at a high price, but I still had the same problem.
OMG...
I just unchecked "Decode H.264/H.265 using hardware acceleration" on Decode Options, Prerefence.
Then the problem was solved. It's so absurd.
