Audio quality decreases when adding clip to timeline

PostSat Apr 01, 2023 2:22 pm

Hello, everyone! I noticed that when I play back my audio (associated with a video clip) in the preview window, it sounds great, however, the moment I drag it down onto the audio track in the timeline, the quality changes significantly and things sound hollow/'tinny". Any idea of what's going on? Is there a way to set the audio track to match the preview window audio settings? TIA for all forthcoming replies.

Not seeing this - could it be that you have track effects setup such as equalization or dynamics? Even clip volume?

You will possibly get this if your computer is not powerful enough to run Resolve properly, or your footage comes from a source that uses Variable Frame Rate such as a phone.
What are your computer specs?
Resolve Studio 19.0b build 20
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo 860 SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (551.86 Studio Driver), Win10 Home (22H2), Speed Editor, Faderport mk1, Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ GW2270 + Samsung SA200, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply! No track effects that I'm aware of or can see. I ended up moving the audio of that clip to another track which seemed to help. I wonder though why the audio quality is so much better in the preview window than in the track below? Shouldn't they have equal quality?

Thanks for your reply, Charles! In answer to your question, my specs are as follows:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2904 Mhz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors
16 GB RAM; 1 TB SSD

I think you may be on to something regarding my system not being powerful enough. I do hear it revving up occasionally which makes me think that my system is running at max capacity at those moments. I then simply wait a moment to allow it to "simmer down" :) and then things flow again.

If you really have no dedicated GPU, that's something to expect.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Unfortunately I only have the one. Gotta work with what I got for now until it's time for an upgrade. Thanks for your input.

Convert your audio to PCM 48 kHz (if it's not already in that format).
Saves the computer some effort.

Thanks, Uli! I will keep that in mind for future projects.
