Keyboard shortcuts for jump to start or end of timeline?

PostFri May 12, 2023 6:21 pm

I know I can jump from the start to the end of a clip using ; or ' but are there any keyboard shortcuts for jump to start or end of the timeline?

On Macs Fn+Left and Right should also work.

Fn+Left and Right DOES work . . . this morning!

On a number of occasions over the past few days I have tried it and it did not work . . . maybe a glitch or something?

Perhaps a bit of telekinesis transmitted from your definitive replies . . .

Thanks!

One thing that’s a bit tricky about Keyboard focus in Resolve:
1. Many commands work only in the focused panel
2. It’s not visually clear as to where the focus is

Perhaps the focus wasn’t in the timeline panel when you were trying Fn+Left and Right and it wasn’t working.

You can turn on “Show focus indicators” in preferences which helps somewhat. There’s a red line which shows you where the focus is. It isn’t very prominent but I find it’s much better having it on.

One other thing it’ll show you though is that the focus isn’t always where it seems it “should” be. There are bugs here as well as things that are working as intended but not as some would expect.

Thanks for suggesting the "Show Focus Indicators".

I have now enabled them.

It is quite possible the timeline was not active although I am sure I had been playing it prior to trying to jump and I also think I had been using the ; and ' controls in a clip.

Just had second thoughts about my last statement, so checked it out.

The ; and ' shortcuts work even when the timeline is not active whereas the Fn + Right or Left don't.

So it looks as though I mistakenly assumed the timeline was active because I could jump to the front and back of a clip.

Yeah - there are quite a few Timeline shortcuts that work even when the Timeline isn't focused. Which of course gets people confused. Oh well... :?

Fwiw, Timeline Start (Home) and Timeline End (End) are 'Application' level shortcuts, so they 'should' work regardless of whether the timeline is in focus or not. Seem to work fine for me.

Have you got dedicated Home and End keys - I'm using Fn and the arrows?

Hey Ian, nope, a quick test this morning on my M1 MacBook running 18.5 beta 2 ... during my test it didn't seem to matter which panel had focus, Fn-Left Arrow and Fn-Right Arrow did the Home/End thing.

Maybe it's a keyboard thing . . . you have a built in one whereas mine is a separate Magic Keyboard.

I cheat and use a full-size keyboard with the MacBook Pro M1 Max, and Home and End does work there. There are Function key equivalents to get around that: ⌘-> and ⌘<-.

Optionally, consider one of the control surfaces, either for color or editing. I think several of those have "Go to Start" and "Go to End" buttons, and you can use Keyboard Customization to chance it if you want.

Hello,

It seems that my Home, End and Del keys do not work anymore in DR version 19. Before this (in the Beta versions as well) works okay. Home to beginning of timeline, End the opposite and with Del I could always till now, delete an clip from the tim line and/or a Node. On the timeline it works the same as Ripple Delete.

Are these bugs or a change?

Thanks

Harold

Ps. I see under shortlinks

Action Mac PC
Go to First Frame ; ;
Go to Last Frame ´ ´
Play Around Current Frame / /
Go to Timeline Start Function + Left Arrow Home
Go to Timeline End Function + Right Arrow End
Previous Clip / Edit Arrow Up Arrow Up
Next Clip / Edit Arrow Down Arrow Down
Step One Frame Reverse Arrow Left Arrow Left
Step One Frame Forward Arrow Right Arrow Right

So for PC Home and End should work!

I'm thinking a glitch with your system. They should be working as normal.

I started up a project in Resolve 19 and find that Home and End are not performing "Beginning of Timeline" and "End of Timeline" as I recall from 18 in the Edit page.

Just my noobish impression, but sometimes when hotkeys are not working, it is because the wrong part of the UI has focus.

Hi, any news on this? I just upgraded from Ver 18 to 19.0.1 and my Home and End keys no longer take me to the start and end of the timeline. They do nothing.

I am focused on the Edit timeline on my Windows machine.

Using the Playback menu works.

Thanks for any info-

Turns out I was using Home and End on my numeric keypad.

I had to add mapping to them using "Keyboard Customization" and now all is good.
