Crasing Studio 18.1.4 Build 9

PostSat May 27, 2023 3:46 am

Hi everyone, Resolve Studio 18.1.4 Build 9 continues to crash when idle. It is very unusual but as long as I am working in the software it does not crash but within 60 seconds of idle the software closes on its own without error message. I've never had an issue in the past and I'm a bit green to troubleshooting issues like this. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Here are my specs:
Resolve Studio 18.1.4 Build 9
x64-based PC
12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K, 3200 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
128gb physical ram

Here's a link to my logs.

It would be helpful to have a Windows System Information .NFO file.

It appears Resolve is crashing due to running out of GPU VRAM. And it appears that this LUT may be causing the issue:

Felt Luts\BW1_GRAIN_1.cube

It also appears that you may have displays connected to both the internal Intel iGPU and to the NVIDIA GPU. That will break Resolve. All displays need to be connected to the NVIDIA GPU. You can try that and see if that helps.

Thanks for your response Dwaine.

I removed the lut from the lut folder and removed the hdmi from the iGPU but the software continues to crash.

Here is my NFO: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link

Thanks again.

According to the NFO, you still have a 1920x1080 display connected to the Intel UHD Graphics iGPU.

According to the logs, the Felt Luts\BW1_GRAIN_1.cube LUT is still causing the GPU to run out of memory.

In File Explorer, go this this folder:

C:\Users\Felt Studios\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\.LUT and make sure that LUT is removed from this folder as well.

Ok great. I went ahead and removed the luts from the folder.

Do I need to turn off the IGPU somewhere in settings? Currently I have my 3 of 4 monitors plugged directly into my graphics card. Nothing else is plugged into another hdmi/video port.

Also this crashing seems to be only happening to a particular project. I have other feature length projects that do just fine but this smaller 3-4 minute music video is having the issues.

Did you remove the LUT from both the .LUT folder that I provided a link to, AND the C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT folder? It has to be removed in both places.

Yes I removed the lut from both locations prior to uploading my most recent logs in my previous post.

Unfortunately, I am still having the issue. My GPU is up to date as well.

If you removed the LUT before the current set of logs you sent, then I can't explain why Resolve would still be loading it, and crashing shortly there after. It seems like you may not be removing the LUT from the proper folder(s).

This is the related log entry in the newest log file:

[0x000084ac] | GPU | INFO | 2023-05-30 22:11:11,305 | Loaded Shaper LUT 'Felt Luts\BW1_GRAIN_1.cube'

The Shaper LUT would be in the .LUT folder. Which would be in this path:

C:\Users\Felt Studios\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\.LUT

Can you provide a File Explorer screen shot of that folder, that shows the full path at the top?

Attached is a screenshot of the path.

Could it be because one of the clips was using those specific LUTS and it is trying to load it?

I've done a test here, duplicating what you've done.

If you have a LUT used in a project node, and you then save and exit the project, and rename the LUT and .LUT folder that LUT was in to something else, and then load the project again, it does TRY to load that LUT, but a log error is generated that it failed to read the shaperlut.

You are not getting a failed to read error. Your system is loading the LUT, somehow. Again, assuming that the log file you sent was actually generated after you removed the LUT.

There is a handy free Windows utility called Everything. It's a very excellent and fast file search utility. And unlike the Windows File Explorer search function, Everything actually works to search everywhere, quickly. If you don't already have that (or some other file search utility) I'd recommend installing Everything, and then use it to search for BW1_GRAIN_1.cube and see if that's lurking somewhere else on your system and Resolve is seeing it somehow.

Ok great. I used everything and there were 3 places the file existed.

1. On the client drive
2. In a My Documents folder
3. Trash Can

I removed/deleted all of them permanently from the computer.

I then proceeded to opening Resolve. I received an error message "Your GPU memory is full. Try reducing the timeline resolution or the number of correctors."

I created some additional logs that can be viewed here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link

OK, the LUT error is finally gone, and now you are getting a standard CUDA memory error. Implying that you are doing something in the project that requires more than the 12 GB of VRAM that your RTX 3080 Ti GPU provides.

Please send a project export .drp of that project. Generate that by opening the Resolve Project Manager window, then right clicking the project, and selecting Export Project.

If you don't want the project available publicly, send me a PM with a link.
