Aspect ratio 16:9 black bars on the sides

PostFri May 26, 2023 3:19 pm

New to DaVinci. Shoot on Sony 7r5. Shot a timelapse in photo mode (interval shooting) with the aspect ratio 16:9, thinking it would fit the 1920x1080 resolution perfectly. It did not. I have two black bars on the left and on the right. I can get rid of them by cropping (and maybe it would be a better solution anyway). But what would be a better way to fit the clip into the frame? My project settings: timeline resolution 1920x1080, pixel aspect ratio Square; Image Output Scaling: match timeline settings.

That will be a creative choice. You can zoom in and reframe or keep the black bars.

Are you sure you shot 19 by 9? Many hybrid Sony cameras can be set to 3 by 2 for photography.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

If will. If it doesn't, then something about your data isn't correct. Either the image isn't 16:9, or the timeline isn't 1920 x 1080.

Because 1920 / 1080 = 1.77777
Likewise, 16 / 9 = 1.77777

I would probably choose Project Settings>Image Scaling>Input Scaling>Scale full frame with crop.

Are you using jpg or raw for the stills? JPEG will be 16x9 if you set that aspect for stills, but the RAW will be 3x2 no matter what setting.
