Davinci Resolve 15 keeps crashing on High Sierra

PostWed May 31, 2023 8:46 am

Hi everyone

Totally new to DR, but trying to make a video with clips I recorded on my iphone. But DR keeps crashing. I can work maybe 2-3 minutes, and then it goes down. I'm using:

2012 Macbook Pro
16 GB Ram
2,5 GHz Intel Core i5
Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
High Sierra

Davinci Resolve 15.3.1.003

LOG attached.

Any help is highly appreciated!

If that's a modern iPhone, get a modern Mac too. Your hardware is not up to it:

Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

The crash is occurring in the AppleIntelHD4000GraphicsGLDriver. The Intel HD4000 GPU is barely capable of running Resolve, due to its age and low amount of VRAM.

One thing you can try, which I'm not sure will work on that system, is to set the GPU Processing mode in Resolve Preferences - System - Memory and GPU to OpenCL instead of what's currently selected (probably Auto) which is using Metal GPU processing. Maybe that will help, or maybe it won't work at all.

If the footage you are using is VFR (variable frame rate) Resolve doesn't like that, especially older versions of Resolve like this. You can see if the media is VFR by using the free MediaInfo app, or paying a few dollars for the Invisor app on the App Store.

If your timeline resolution is anything higher than HD, that won't work with the low amount of VRAM on the HD4000 GPU.

Thank you both!
I tried to do the change of the GPU, didn't help at all.

Now I've managed to get an old version of Imovie, and it works fine. I'm just an video amateur, so no need for advanced programs.
Thanks you again!
Peter
