Edit in clip using source playhead and timeline playhead

PostFri Jun 02, 2023 1:33 pm

Hi! This is a thing I thought I knew how to do, but now I can't do it and can't find the info.

A simple thing: when I edit in sound effects, let's say a bell going "bing" when a lightbulb pops up, my instinct is to move the timeline playhead to the exact frame where the pop up is, and then move the source playhead to the top of the waveform. Then push "something" to insert the clip with the source and timeline playheads as match point. (Of course after selecting the right track).

But the only ways I find (using Replace) inserts the clip so that the whole clips starts where the timeline playhead is, rather than placing the waveform top on the right frame (matching timeline and source playhead positions).

Any help on how I should do this? Info is probably right in front of me somewhere but haven't found it.

Many thanks in advance,
Elias

The only way I can get this to work is by using the 'Replace' operation (F11). Otherwise the source clip playhead is considered to be the in-point of the insert or overwrite.

Add - this is on the edit page, if that matters.

Place On Top won't do it?

Not that I've found. Place on top seems to take the source play head as the in-point if none is specified. Do you see something different, Jim?
