Render in Place - Decompose to Original and Media offline

PostFri Jun 02, 2023 3:15 pm

Hi fellow DR users.

I am new to DR and been using it for about 60+hrs for this current project. All things were going well in the 1st video of 3. Was exporting in H.265 3840x2160 to Frame IO

By the time I got to video 2 edit and finished, I tried exporting same settings and it started to fail.

I then researched and started using "Render in Place" method every single clip. Which in this case helped for video 2 to export successfully.

After client wanted a few changes (as usual), I then went back to Decompose to Original, but to only encounter Media offline (still having Nodes in place, Masks and Tracking information).

I can't seem to relink the footage back to the media pool.

No files have been moved or anything.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

So what does happen when you right-click the decomposed clip instance and choose 'Find in Media Pool', then right-click that Media Pool clip source and choose "Relink Selected Clip"?

Hey Andy thanks for replying.

Basically it will just highlight the rendered clip in the media pool. After I Rendered in Place, it appears in my Media Pool.

So basically when I decompose, media offline, right click find in media pool, it just highlights the rendered clip and not the original file.

And yet the original clip itself is still in the Media Pool? If so, select that original Media Pool clip, then right-click the (offline) timeline instance and choose 'Conform Lock with Media Pool Clip'.

If the original clip is not still in the Media Pool, then a) thats why it's now offline in the timeline, and b) drag the original clip from your media storage back into the projects Media Pool... it should reconform to the offline clip automatically.

Hope it helps

Thanks Andy,

It worked to replace the clip with the original and Nodes are also still intact. However, my frames are out.
Is there a way it can match the previous in and out points in the media pool with the instance in the timeline?

Could it be that your original clip has no proper timecode? Which camera was used?

No time code. Used EOS R with Ninja V+ DNxHQ codec

I would never even start to use clips without TC in DR. If they don't have one, add a fake one with a tool like EditReady. But then, I can hardly imagine that a Ninja is not recording some TC.

Thanks for the replies Andy. Weird thing is I did the method again and some clips matched up nicely and some were out of sync.
